Default Aftermarket Wheel/Tire -How big can I go?

I have a 1991 honda accord lx, with no modifications to the suspension, wheels, etc. I am interested in getting rims and tires but dont know what size to get. My stock wheels/tires are 185 70 R14. I have looked at many sites which gurantee that the wheels listed for my car WILL fit... but some are outrageous like 215 35 R18.... that works? well i doubt it but i want to know what i can really put on my car without having issues with it. I am interested in 17" rims if possible or if not then just 16".

Please list from experience what wheel/tire sizes will REALLY work on a "stock" 1991 honda accord lx.

I was most interested in the wheels (right looks, and price) that were 205 40 R17

17's with the right offset (I think its 45) is fine.
