Default 5th Generation Question

Hey everyone, as you can all tell, Im new to this board. One of my brother's friends pointed it out to me because he knew how much I love Hondas. Anyways, Im currently lookin for my 1st car and I've decided to get a 96-97 Accord EX. I've been looking for a few months lately and I've found many I like except for one thing. They all seem to be automatic!! Is it really that hard to find a 5speed with low miles? Did they not produce many of them that year? Thanks in advance.

They did, keep looking. Why do you want 96-97 instead of 94-95?

Wow, quick replys! Anyway, I want the 96-97 because I like the two tail lights instead of one. It just looks nicer to me. Also, my brother had a 94 EX (automatic) so I thought I might be able to get something different. Mileage is also a major part of my purchase and the newer cars tend to have lower mileage.

they are to find i did find a bunch in PA and AR when i was relooking
94-95's i think are better ive owned a 96 and i now have a 95 and i like i better for some reason...

also 94-95s are OBD1 and not OBD2 so if you plan on doing power mods that will help you out

5 speeds are rare... I think only ~5% of all EX models came in manual. LX models were more prevelent in manual form.

LX models dont have VTEC though. I've driven an LX 5 speed and and EX 5 speed as well as an EX auto and an LX auto. You can definatley tell the difference between the EX and LX. Plus I love the sound of the cam changeover!

first, i own a 94 LX, i spanked my sisters 95 EX auto all the damn time. it wasnt even fun. Also, the V-tec in the accord is pretty much worthless, you cant even really feel it kick in, also, the EX's are about 200 lbs heavier if not more, and are way over-bloated with pointless options.. you're beter off getting a 94 LX (my favorites) they are so easy to work on.. simple engines = simple to work on. the EX has HELLA hoses, and tons of pointless **** that just gets in your way. THis is ONLY my opinion, so dont be lamers and flame me for it.. peace

your right about the stock VTEC xover point is retarted
but oom get a vafc it works WONDERS, when i get my exhaust done i will record a in car vid for you guys with the stock vtec settings and then with the VAFC.

lx 5spd will be a autoex all day the does the auto even rev high enough to switchover? 5250.

my question is why are you worried about miles...it's a fuggin honda...second...pesonally...the 94-95 tailights look better...but that's just me...and third...if you really want low miles that bad you should just get a 94 dx (they mostly came with manuals) and then do an h22 swap with the money you save from getting a 96 or 97...that would be your smartest move for power (since you want vtec so badly) and for money....but do what you want man...it's yo money...

i just explained that...because he could do a swap with the money he saved by buying a car that is only 3 years older but in the same generation...the only problem might be the body rusting out a little sooner...but that won't be for at least another decade y0...

Hey man,
I bought my car in March for 13,500 with TT&L. It had 58k miles on it, and it was hard as hell to find. It took me roughly a month of searching at 10-15 dealerships, I ultimately had to go to a bigger city to find it. Keep searchin, there are some out there. Don't settle for a car you don't want... I almost bought a Mazda 626 because I was getting tired of searching and my dad was pressuring me.

miles are miles even if its a honda granted they last but nothing last if you dont take care of it.

Okay, thanks alot everybody. Now to answer some questions. Im not the one who is concerned about mileage, its my dad. Even though our 94 EX had over 130,000 miles when we sold it, he wants me to get one with low mileage. Second, im not allowed to get an engine swap. If I was, I'd buy a CRX or a EK hatchback and drop a B16 or B18 into it. Also, about the "extra goodies" that just weigh it down, those are the things I want. Preferably leather (only available on EX) and I would also like a moonroof. So mainly, my purchase is being restricted by my parents. And I prefer the look of the 96-97 over the 94-95.

And it all comes together. Good luck and happy hunting man!

Yeah, just keep looking. I just scored a 96 EX with 71k. Loaded, leather, power seat, etc, etc. with a 5spd for $7500. Took a few weeks of looking here in the orlando area, but I finally found one.

definately go for a 94-95 ex manual. 94-95 is better than 96-97 b/c:

OBD1
slightly lighter
better tail lights(my opinion)
better alloy wheels(94-95 ex)

the only thing i like about the 96-97 is the antenna on the rear window
and the front bumper

I don't know, but I don't consider ABS, 4 wheel disc brakes, thicker front sway bar, rear sway bar, 15 more hp, moonroof, body colored side mouldings, and a nice set of stock rims worthless.

Sounds like the rational for someone who really rather have an EX.

The front one is actually 27.2mm which is the same thickness as S/T aftermarket bars, but they are solid which is better. The rear is 15mm and is skinny, but still better than nothing. For our EX's get a S/T rear bar and the handling is much improved and you'll get some oversteer.

Look at yer muffler and look at the pipe going to it. You'll see a skinny bar going one from side to the other. That's it.
