Default smelled clutch, how bad is it???

today this guy pissed me off really bad, and i was rolling along at like 10mph in 2nd gear...i wasn't thinking and just pushed in the clutch and revved...then i dropped it. I have no idea why i did it, i was just pissed off! anyway, I felt the clutch slip as it tried to engage and then the smell of clutch filled the car. it drives fine and everything, i think, but how bad could i have damaged the clutch? the car had 44k miles.

It'll be fine...I've done far worse and more than just a few times. Learned my lesson.

The slipping of your clutch on the pressure plate cause the clutch material to burn away causing that awful smell.

yeah, but i really never burn out in this car except for the occasional light spin off the line. In my old 84 camry in high school, i used to go in reverse for a sec, then put it in nuetral, then rev to redline and drop in first. clouds of tire smoke covered my car. i was just being paranoid because i love my integra

Oh the poor Camry. I only do stuff like this to rental cars...

So yes, it's vaporized clutch lining. Definitely not good, but not THAT bad either. Afterall, clutches are replaceable.

yes poor camry, but it was fun. despite being tortured daily with burnouts and redline shifts at almost every takeoff, and with the STOCK clutch at 140k, it still barks second!!!! i kid you not.

Awesome! My friend used to do that same thing in is Accord, on tarmac the R to D things would spin the tire pretty good. I can't believe that car survived all that horrible torture ... but it took it in stride.

speaking of rental cars..... needed a car for the weekend since my baby's still lacking injectors or an so I picked up a 2001 Shitstang v6 automatic. It's a POS... seriously... it must be as stripped as they could get it. But.... tap that traction control disable button and bam. The back tires are already almost slick. I'll be rotating them tomorrow to play with it a little more until I return it Sunday. If only I had a ZEX kit handy.....

Default pull the brake!!

ACT HD/SS, ITR flywheel and 130-140 lb/ft of TQ at 4-7K... is fun! When I am feeling exceptionally frisky, I pull the brake and smoke both tires. I only did it
once, but I slid my rear tire and left a 40" patch from both tires from a dead stop only spinning like 7.5K. My friend witnessed the whole thing. He was in the car...
That was about a week and a half ago, I should go take a pic of that one@! HEHE>.. yea, I smelled alittle clutch but mainly TIRE@!!! He drives a 5spd 2000 VTEC Prelude and I DESTROY him for fun now. Its sick. He dynoed 162/141 peak, but damn does that engine have power holes in it...

hehe, a whole lot. I did the same thing with one of my friends. He broke 2 engine mounts and blew the radiator hose off. I was completely amazed. Of course this was also a POS '84 Mazda GLC.

haha Dave that sucks

Worst I've ever done to a clutch was hold the parking brake on and then gradually release the clutch (versus dropping it like you're supposed to in order to create the smokies!). I can't help but think of what kind of wear that put on it.

I remember doing powerbrake burnouts in my mom's old Ford Aerostar in high school. That was fun.
