I wouldn't worry about making that motor faster, personally.
To be blunt, it kinda sucks to upgrade. Save up for an SOHC or DOHC ZC or a newer D-series, and do a manual swap at the same time.
^ What I'd do...

thats not that bad of an idea
wouldnt it be cheaper anyway to put in a sohc zc then it is to do a mpfi swap anyway?

Well, actually, putting in an SOHC ZC IS an MPFI swap.
The only thing you have to do to your car to make the SOHC ZC work is change your wiring. Check my project thread in my sig. I did an SOHC ZC swap on my DPFI car and covered it fairly throroughly. You can re-use the stock tranny, stock mounts, stock shift linkage, stock throttle cable and clutch cable, stock axles and hubs, stock everything. That's what makes it so cheap to do.
I will recommend http://www.hmotorsonline.com til the day I die. They have awesome prices, excellent service, and prompt shipping. Not to mention if you ever have a question, call them and they know a WHOLE LOT about Honda's and engine swaps.
Basically, you'd be doing MPFI wiring and an Auto->Manual swap.
What I would do:
1) Find all the parts you need for the Auto->Manual swap. (Local junkyards, eBay, here on H-T.)
2) Order an SOHC or DOHC ZC motor from HMO. Any newer D-series will require OBD conversions and that can get more costly. Stick with OBD0.
3) Swap the engine and do the Auto->Manual swap at the same time.
4) Drive your ultra-clean sedan which now had a motor and tranny with potential!
Feel free to PM me with any questions...
I wish you were in VA. We'd crank this out in a couple days...

Get reliable tools first. You'll always need those. Or get a GF whose dad has a welder, air compressor, air tools, jacks, jackstands, and every car-related thing you could eva want, lol. <- that's what I did
