Default Flywheel Bolts: Removal

So finally after getting all the bolts off of the tranny and other things, i finally wiggle the tranny out! I was able to take off the pressure plate and clutch disc, but now I am having a flywheel removal problem. I got one bolt free that is holding the flywheel but the rest won't come off. Coming off isn't really the problem, the problem is the flywheel keeps spinning. How do i keep it from doing that or is there another way to remove the bolts?

Thanks in advance!

If you have an air impact wrench that will get them as well.

you could, I dont recomend it, use a very heavy flathead screwdriver in one of the FW teeth to brace the FW against one of pins that hold the tranny in place..... it takes 2 people, and you can scratch the hell out of your flywheel if you are not carefull...... but it can work if you dont have the guid tool or a good impact hammer.

You are suppose to remove those bolts in a crisscross pattern one step at a time. You will cause damage to the crank and/or flywheel if you dont. You could also hold the crank still throught the crank pully. Have some one hold the crank puuly with 19mm socket and a breaker bar. The crankpully is on there much tighter than those flywheel bolts so the bolts should break loose instead of the crank pully. Just be sure to tightend that crankpully back up to 181ftbls.

Nada. Not much left of the shortblock, in fact the crank is out once these bolts are free.

Even with everything stripped off the timing belt side, you can put the crank pulley bolt back in and use that to keep the crank from turning.

I see - I would say there has to be a way to use one of the holes in the plate in the same manner as a tooth on a flywheel.

Or get a bigg *** impact and a good compressor.

Sorry I can't be more help.

so instead of using the right tools / parts that can get this done in like 5 minutes. you choose to jimmy rig it and take much longer.

ok, suit yourself

So you want me to waste money on a bolt I have absolutely no use for?

No other tool was mentioned for a flexplate, there are no teeth so a flywheel tool wont work.

There are LOTS of holes in the flex plate, maybe I can find a bolt to put through it to lockit down. ****** automatics.

Figured it out, well at least how to lock down the flexplate. Got all but 2 of the bolts out. May have to go to shop to have them removed.

Stick a piece of wood between the block and the flywheel,
it shouldn't move then.
