Driving without power steering belt is like wrestling a bear. Not a koala, an effing panda.
Srsly.
I took the belt off to see how i would like no power steering(because I plan on converting), and the thing is seriously as difficult as hell. I got tired after busting a few turns and a u turn (i'm weak). but I left all the hoses and pump in, just taking out the belt.
How do you guys do it? Supermen?
does converting to a manual rack feel completely different from just removing the belt?
If power steering is at a 1, and no belt(with all power steering lines and reservoir pump etc) is a 20, in terms of difficulty turning...
how would you rate the difficulty in turning on a full manual conversion? How would you rate looping the lines?

I'm not sure how i would rate it, but you'll get used to it eventually...and looping or converting the rack will be easier. Once you get moving it's no problem.
driving with the belt off and driving with the lines loop or the PS rack gutted is VERY different.
driving with just the belt off is a bitch.

say with p/s its a 1 and without it is a 20... with the conversion it is about a 7. its completely different from no belt...so if you're considering do the conversion, dont be scared off

Ive been driving without a belt on my 5th gen for almost a year.
Youll get over it. My only complaint is manuvering in a parking lot to dodge people and or other cars is just none existant. Oh and if im really tired or hung over, it kicks my ***.

I watched a Ferrari testarossa try and parallel park while I was on a break at work. I was standing there watching him having a smoke and when I was done he was still trying to turn that wheel lol
It's def. a heavier car but it still, funny to watch this dude wrestle the wheel to move those huge tires

Yeah, I would agree. I dropped the ps when I pulled the eng/trans last week. I have driven alot of cars with out ps and my lude is definetly harder than I thought it would be. I like the feedback you get and I am getting used to the resistance. Things like hand position become important and seat position so that your closer to the steering wheel. I am not 100% happy with it but it is growing on me. I am not going to reinstall it or anything but I did expect it to be alittle easier at speed. Yeah it is a pain to park with but even turning 90 degrees going 30mph is kind of tough. I am 6'2 240 and don't think it is as easy as some people say it is with out ps. All I can tell those who are thinking about dropping it is that there are alot of tradeoffs. The hp gained and rotational drag loss alone will not make up for the loss of comfort. I mainly dropped it to gain more feedback from the tires when tracking the car. Wj
My first car was a '77 K5 Blazer with 33" tires and no PS. If your Prelude is a effin Panda, this thing had to be an effin Grizzly. You'll get used to it, it builds your arms to, haha.
