larger tires + shorter final drive OR smaller tires + higher final drive?
I have a 94 cx hatch that needs fenders and wheel lugs. I was thinking about getting some of rodney's "wide-body" fenders and extended lugs while I'm replacing parts. This would allow me to run a larger tire w/o clearance issues. If I did this, I could run a 225/50/15 with a 4.058 final and achieve the exact same gearing as a 205/50/15 with a 3.888 final.
Now I already have to take the trans off and change out a part anyways. I already have 3.25, 3.722, 3.888, 4.058, 4.25, 4.4375 final drives laying around. My wheels are 15x7 +40 This will be in built turbo D with ~275whp.
One more thing. 225/45/15s would be ideal. But I can't find any street tires in that size.
225/50/15s, 4.058 final, 8000rpm redline, my gears end at the following mph
1st = 43
2nd = 72
3rd = 89
4th = 111
5th = 140
205/50/15s, 3.888 final, 8000rpm redline, my gears end at the following mph
1st = 43
2nd = 73
3rd = 90
4th = 112
5th = 141
I guess the main question at here is, is all this really worth it for 225/50/15s ?

here's a url if you care to see http://www.fatboyraceworks.com...are=1
Well damn. I started doing some more searching, and it looks like the azenis aren't available in 225/50/15 or even 215/50/15.
It looks like my best bet is going to be to run 205/50/15s with the 3.888 final. This will bring my 80mph cruising rpm to 4550rpm. Then later on after I get more "trained" with my car, I can run 225/45/15s and they're nearly identical overall diameter to the 205/50/15s
Then I can get some azeni's for town driving and then get some other wheels and put a larger tire on and have a set for "distance" traveling.
just playing around here but 195/65/15s would yiled a ~25" tire and bring my cruising rpms down to 4200rpm @ 80mph which is faily reasonable
3.888 is perfect with my close ratio box. Sucks because it's not actually available for hydro transmissions and only available for cable. hehehhe, time to do some shimming to get it to work. Thanks to everyone that helped out here
