Default State Referee Inspection Required

So I got pulled over yesterday on my way home from work. Was not doin anything, jus cruisin at like 2000 rpms and this dik cop pulls me over. Told me my exhaust sounded like a tin can, made me pop my hood and gave me a tik for modified intake. I didnt bitch at all cuz I had my nitrous bottle in and he was a total idiot cuz he pretty much missed erething he could give me a ticket for. So I look at the ticket and it has a sticker that says state referee inspection required. I have a swap and everything is modifed on my car. It will not pass for **** cuz its chipped, fpr, motor swap from an older motor, etc. Is there any way to get out of it such as pay the ticket, ask for a trial and hope he doesnt come? Or am I pretty much royally fucked and have to go to the referee. If i do, i gunna have to put the old motor back in and prob jus part out the car and get somethin new ***!

When you sign for your driver's license, u give full permision to the officer to inspect ur vehicle. If u dont, they can take ur licence and they use it as probable cause + i had exhaust

i was under the impression it's your right not to have to pop the hood unless they have a reason to (although exhaust is debatable).

you could try giving the judge fake papers and getting it dismissed. i'm not sure if they have anything electronically registered for your car once u get one of these tickets, but i just finished the whole process yesterday and the judge barely even looked at the papers, let alone look up whether they were valid. they didn't keep the papers either.
he just flipped through both sheets for literally 2 seconds and said dismissed, pay your $10.

This is why people should do things the right way, in the first place. Once you have that nifty little BAR sticker on your door jam, you can tell Mr. Pogey to eat a fat one as you drive off with your legal mod's.

Contact hazw8st here. He specalizes in all types of situations like this with having a modified car in CA. He just took care of my smog registration for me, all through legal DMV paper work, nothing illegal. He's a good guy.

Yeah, that's what i did. Just paid the ticket and i didn't have to take my car to state ref. I had a b16 swap with mugen valve cover and all the stupid cop noticed was the intake with no carb##. Wont happen again.

All you have to do is point to the BAR sticker on your door jam and they can't do **** about your mods because you've already had them inspected by the Ref.. If you consider being pulled over at all being hassled, take the bus.

Just do what you have to do to get it Ref'd and you won't have to worry about it again.

haha, let me just pull out my built motor, pull out the nitrous, pull out the walbro fuel pump, and swap a stock motor since i have no life and want to work on my car for the rest of my life. Then I could swap the built motor back in and call it a day.

You'll be illegal until you do, so take your sarcasm and shove it up your ***. Maybe you'll be really cool and have your car impounded next time since you aren't intelligent enough to work around the system.

Every mod I have done to my daily driver Integra is legal, unless my lowering puts the headlights too low (I haven't measured). Its not that I think the law is correct, its rather retarded, but I don't want to deal with the consequences of getting caught breaking it.

If you're breaking the law, you're breaking the law, and really shouldn't be upset that you got caught. If I steal your car and get caught, would you support my complaining that I got busted breaking the law?

And 91SiZ6 is correct. It really isn't that difficult to drive a legal modified car. Correctly done engine swaps are legal, and you can always register as a kit car if you want to have much more radical modifiactions. There's also conversion to CNG which exempts the vehicle from smog checks, and diesel cars don't have checks to begin with.

i agree with you. there are plenty of swaps that are legal and people have fun with them. But in my case, this was a whole tear down motor and built for performance, so I will not pass smog or inspection regardless. How can it be fair for mustangs and camaros to heavily modify their cars and have no problems or even be harrassed? The law is stupid. My first ticket i got was for modified intake and i had a carb approved aem intake, so if the cop wants to harrass u, it does not matter, he will harass u. I know y we have laws, and i am grateful for them. But this is a JUDGEMENTAL law, not a law based on morality.
