pics of a borg warner S400 compared to a garrett t67
I got the new borg warner Airwerks S400 turbo in. This thing has the 71mm inducer which is comparable to the Garrett GT4294R in size and specs and is supposed to flow a little more. The only thing is with this turbo is that the smallest turbine housing I could find is the 1.10a/r and this specific one in these pictures has the 1.58a/r housing which is frickin' huge and they all use the standard deisel inlet flange which is bigger than the T4 footprint. The plan is to try and fit a Garrett T4 turbine housing to it or machine it to fit if I cannot find a another BW turbine housing under a 1.10a/r
As for the Garrett I'm comparing it to, it's not really a comparison about which is brand is better as I like both brands. It's a comparison of how huge these S400 and Gt42 frame turbos are compared to the turbos in the "S" sized family since I haven't found any good pics of a "physical" size comparison so it's hard to tell if it'll fit insde of an engine bay or not depnding on what turbo you currently have installed at the time. The Garrett is a t4 t67 with a .68a/r turbine housing, just so you get the idea of size.

I would like to put one of those on my single cam so spool can start at my rev limit. God Damn that turbo is HuuuGGEEEeee
Tony, it's not that I want a super small hosuing, I want something comparable to the 1.01 or 1.15 that garrett offers. That's why I"m gonna go with the 1.10 that BW offers if I can't fint something a little smaller than that.
If they don't offer smaller than a 1.10, then there's usually a reason. Look at the turbine efficiency maps for the 42, the 1.01 housing really restricts that turbo. I'm sure the 1.10 is really as far as they want to restrict that turbine section.
Yeah, that's probably why I'll be running the 1.10a/r
AS far as I know, the 1.10 is the smallest they make because there is nothing smaller listed. I heard Bullseye is making smaller housings for these turbos but we'll see. I got such a great offer to run this turbo on my car that I just couldn't resist trying it.

shouldnt you be comparing the borg warner to something its size. Unless you are trying to prove the spool characteristics are the same or something. I would think you would need to compare this turbocharger with a 4202R or something around its size. Borg compares the t67 with their s366 turbocharger. THAT is a comparison that I want to see someone other than a manufacturer to compare.

This is what threw me off, since the S400 is in the "S" series. Shouldnt you be comparing it (the borg warner) with the "T" series ?

you should put that next to a K03 or something....dwarf the tiny thing, but seriously, i would like to see it in person because that's the only way to appreciate how large one of these SOB's are....GT4249R in person was impressive the first time i saw it on a car
THe pics were taken in my Garage. I'm gonna stop by DB today and or tommorow and snap pics of this and the gt42r side by side. As for selling the t67, I got an offer to try this turbo on my car so I figured I would sell the one I don't need.
Pointless turbo... But i dont see why you are having trouble with a flange... You spent the money on that turbo... Get somone to make you a flange for it if you can't shouldn't be more then $30
I have access to the flange, I'm just saying it would be easier to mate it up to an already made t4 flanged manifold.

1. I have a 1.10a/r turbine housing coming. GT42r's have 1.01, 1.15, 1.28, and 1.44a/r housings. The compressor housing is pretty much the same exact size at the gt42r.
2. The compressor wheel inducer is a 71mm, the gt4294r wheel inducer is 70.3mm. Just slightly larger than the gt42R
3. This turbine wheel is 88mm as compared to the GT42R at 82mm. It's just a little bigger than the gt42r.
4. Physically, it's comparable the the gt42 with slightly bigger wheels.
So how is this turbo pointless when every other honda B-series has a gt42r mated to it? :sarcasm:
