'96 Accord EX V6: my problem child
where do I begin..
- About a week and a half ago I my car wouldn't start. It felt like the brakes were stuck because I couldn't press down on the brake pedal. When I turned the key I heard a clicking noise and the battery was not dead. I heard that if you put the car in neutral, step on the brakes, and turn the key. I tried and it worked. It happend a couple more times after but for the most part everything was okay. I was going to take her to the shop tomorrow, BUT..
- The car won't start at all despite trying the neutral-brake-start routine. To make matters worse, the alarm is acting crazy! It wasn't active when I first tried to start the car but somehow it became active and it won't stop going off. I tried to turn it off with the remote but it doesn't always respond and resets on its own seconds later. oddly, the alarm isn't as loud as it should be. It sounds like its about to die out. I'm not even sure what kind of alarm it is, but its definitely not a new one. My friend said that the alarm may have activated the kill switch which is preventing me from even trying to start her up. so, now she's just sitting in some parking lot waiting for someone to take advantage of her.
- Is there any way around it? I'm really trying to avoid having her towed to the dealer (I don't know any reliable mechanics in this area). And even if I somehow disengage the alarm, is there anything I can do to try to start her up? I'm going to get rid of the current alarm so I'll try anything. I would have cut wires if I knew where the damn alarm was. any info would be much appreciated and thanks for reading this.
In hindsight..yes i should've had her fixed as soon as it happend. i'm kicking myself for it.. Also.. right before I started having problems, I had my brakes changed and the local Midas. Could there be a chance that they did something they shouldn't have? I don't know if this matters, but i also have that ABS "whirrrrrrrr"ing longer than normal thing, but thats never been a problem before.

Sounds like muultiple problems. Try jumping batt. with good jumper car and GOOD cables. Low batteries cause all kinds of schytsy things. Contacts may be worn out in starter also but start with basics(jump or new batt.). ABS must be out of fluid or close to it, the noise is the pump trying to bring pressure back up in accumulator. Needs accum. o-ring at least and possible allen plugs retightened(was a recall way back when). Definitly get rid of unknown alarm and start over with another if you live in a "tough" place. Easy if you know your wiring! Thats easy for me to say! Hope something helps.DPJ
