ls/vtec built turbo..best option available of D or B series setup. H and K series have it beat though for most power.

yeah i forgot to mention that i really need somethign that is going to be reliable, i have had a b16 swap in an eg hatch and that was pretty cool but i would like a motor with more torque and power. many people are saying turbo d but i think the type turbo setup my pocket is willing to put out won't be acceptable to the H-T community. a local guy has a eg coupe with a stock d16z6 and put an ebay turbo kit and is supposedly making a little over 200hp that is all stock internals, would this be a bad decision for me to buy one of those and try it out?

why spend your money on building some **** setup. what are you gonna do when you have no money and it breaks ? ...... and it breaks again.... save your money, buy something that isnt going to fail on you....

do it right the 1st time...

i guess it is just based on opinion, it just seems to me that turbo d series would cost more to do as compared to ls/vtec with about the same amount of horsepower for about the same amount of money, im not sure what i am going to do, going to think about it for a while and continue to save money.

There is no comparison from ls/vtec, to turboing anything. You could stay stock bottom end and boost the sohc ( with a good turbo kit and good fuel mannagement , the key is good fuel management s-300 or neptune.) and blow the doors of any ls/vtec and thats the truth ,and they both will last the same exact amount of time. Ls/Vtec is to pricy for no performance, Turboing any D-series and I wont even use B-series cause that is in a different league. I state facts and have timeslips to prove and back up my facts. (12.98 @ 108mph, 8 psi 90 octane all stock b16 eg hatch s-300 for fuel management) 4260 elevation.

Turbo D FTW

the question was ls/vtec or turbo D, not turbo ls/vtec.

to the op trust me you will be much happier with a turbo d then a ls/vtec. plus when you hear someone talk **** about single cam's you can rape there faces with your single cam!

turbo d will be fun, nice midrange and response. id stick with that. when i had no boost in my lsvtec it was slow compared to my turbo d.;

my additional advice, stick with a stock motor. that way if something happens its not only cheap to fix but you didnt loose a lot of money. ive had better reliability with a stock motor on boost than i have with semi built and very built motors. id rather be out 500 dollars for an oem motor than 3k for a built one

blackeg knows what he's talkin about...he's bad both Turbo D and Turbo LS.

Turbo D is hella cheap to build and still be reliable, they have nice torque numbers compared to B-series at the same HP range...and if you blow your block...it's hella cheap to buy another one.

Gotta love the look on the face of a Turbo B owner when you beat him with a SOHC-T

If you want reliability and fast sell your car. Buy a 99ish ls1 car .. My car always has some freaky **** happening. I had at least 6 bolts that hold the wastegate on either break or back their way out of the hole.. Was even using lock washers. My dump tube is the only reason I still have my wastegate. It got caught on the car and kept it from falling completly under the car
