Default Changing Tranny Fluid help

Does anyone know where I can find a DIY write-up for changin my tranny fluid? I remember reading a thread that had some DIY writes. I did a search for Tranny fluid change and it said try again. I guess the search engine on Honda-tech.com blows.

pull the plug on the pass. side that is a square hole, its a 3/8's drive basically, so just put a 3/8s on there and pull it. Also helps to jack car up on driverside jack plate (as recomended in owners manual for jacking) to help drain fluid. holds 2.5 quarts, and I recommend going to the honda dealership and shelling out 20 bucks for the good stuff. this is for an auto tranny.

Thanks for the help and I have a 5spd. The problem is do I have to invest in a pump so i can pump the fluid into the filler hole or is there anyway to pour the tranny fluid in there? And I know Honda brand is reccommended but can I use redline or synchromesh? And what grade 10w-30 tranny fluid?

And an off topic question, is there a washer on the motor oil drain plug that I have to replace because I am going to change my oil also. I have never heard of these before please correct me if i am wrong. I am thinking I don;t have to replace the washer or if there isn't even a washer there.

there are washers on both the oil drain plug and the tranny drain plug. best to replace them both, easiest to find at the dealer and should be less than a dollar each.

All you need is a funnel with a built in extention hose to be able to reach the filler hole from the top of the engine compartment. I have changed my oils before and re-used the washers because i had no new ones available. You should be fine re-using them but make sure you put new ones on next time you change your oil.

Its a very dissapointing story bro. I never actually wanted to sell the Type-S, I loved that car like crazy but I moved out of my parents house and down to the twin cities so paying for the payments and going to school wasn't possible. The prelude isn't that bad but the RSX-S would have been better.

The Chilton is wrong. Your suppose to pour oil until it starts to spill out of the filler hole. Witch is about 2.2 quarts.

pour an estimated amount through a vss?? fluid pump???

man all of you need to stop posting random confusing crap...what if someone was reading this and had no clue about it...now theyd be REALLY confused....

SIMPLE PROCEDURE for a 5 speed:

1. drain bolt on bottom uses a square 3/8 drive hole..use a rachet and a small extension to get it out..

2. once drained..new washer on the plug and reinstall..torque to 29 ft lbs.

3. remove 17mm fill plug (easiest way is a racheting wrench)...get a long funnel or a funnel with a tube attached..add HONDA MANUAL Trans fluid (varies with lsd and open diff trannies) but you can expect somewhere between 2-3 quarts....add fluid slowly until it spills out of fill hole...get a new washer on the bolt and torque to 33 ft lbs if you can..if you cant get a torque wrench down there, go by feel...(theres not alot of pressure against it so it doesnt need to be super tight)

btw: the washers are peanuts at the dealer..just buy 5 of each when u go

also: the password jdm magnetic oil and tranny drain plugs are a great addition
