Default 98+ spec jdm itr motor

Hi guys, i have been reading the archives about swapping in a JDM ITR motor and how to make it legal. i just want to confirm something and i figured that you lucky type r owners would know.

I want to make my swap legal in Cali so i want to know if the 98+ spec JDM itr motors are the same as an 2000-01 USDM motors as far as OBD2 electronics and appearance. in the archive i read that a member here had a 96 itr motor so he had to get alot of parts to bring it up to spec 00 to get it to pass smog. this is what he had to change:
1. stock header

2. stock cat. (this will work better than an after market unit, plus you'll probably need the extra cat. material to make up for higher compression.)

3. usdm intake manifold (jdm doesn't have purge solenoid nipple)

4. purge solenoid

5. usdm type r ecu ( since my car is a 2k year model I needed a 2k year model ecu, which is obdIIb also I had to get my key programmed to this usdm ecu sine there is an immobilizer)

6. usdm obdII oil pump (the one with mounting brackets for the CKF [crank fluctuation sensor])

7. CKF sensor

8. usdm crank gear ( the jdm one has the key welded to the gear)

9. usdm obdII lower timing belt cover.

10. usdm vtec solenoid (the whole unit which mounts to the head with the 3 10mm screws, the jdm unit doesn't have an oil pressure sensor)

11. crank gear key

in that posts someone had mentioned that 98 and up itr motors had some of this stuff so if you had one it would be easier to convert. what id like to know is, is this true?

so, in theory,(if 98 and up motors are the same as usdm standards) lets say i buy a 98 and up itr complete swap and i want to go to the ref to get it Bar'd, i would just need a p73 ecu, USDM intake and Exhaust manifolds? the jdm harness would plug into my USDM ecu with no problems?

one more thing guys, almost done

i know that to make it legally done with a USDM motor it needs to be the same year or newer. can the refs tell what year a JDM motor is from? so lets say i end up buying a 98 motor but i get a 00 ecu? would that work? i cant think of anything else that they could check if the jdm motor does not have a year stamped on it but im sure they would check the ecu. im assuming that the intake/exhaust manifolds for all USDM type r motors was the same 96-01. are all usdm type r ecu's the same? i read in the archives that 96-01 ecu's are just P73. is there a way to tell what year a certain ecu is from? sorry for all the quesions guys but id just like to keep it legal.
thanks for reading

there are numbers on the engine which say what year the engine was cast. These numbers are often only one year earlier than the actusl year of the car.

Don't do any of this stuff (unless they are going to make you take off the timing belt cover). All you have to do is wire CKF to CKP. This tricks the ECU into thinking a CKF is installed by using one of the other sensors output inside the distributor (CKP).

This is completely false. I know someone who bought a BRAND NEW 2000 or 2001 JDM Long block. It has all the stuff that NEEDS to be changed. You will still have to change all those parts to be US legal

Regardless of the year of your JDM motor, you will need to replace 1-5, and 10 from your list above
