Default Pilot towing questions??

I have graduated from my 04 accord to an 04 Pilot so I only need one vehicle. Has anyone ever wired one of these with an electric trailer brake controller? I have the plug-in that mated to the vehicle harness, but it only goes to a four flat. Also, are there any recommendations for how to tow with a Pilot? OD/ no OD? I am used to shifting out of the top gear for towing, but the honda manual says nothing about it?? In lower that D4, it seems way to high of RPM....thx

I'm not sure about wiring in the brake controller -- you can check http://www.hondapilot.org for more information on that -- but tow in D5 per the manual. Also, make sure you have the required tranny and power steering fluid coolers as well.

Have you bought the trailer brake controller or does the trailer have a built in actuator to control the brakes?

If your trailer is not equipped with a brake control device you need to get one. I use this one and it came with a harness that plugged right into the brake harness under the dash of my 2500HD Silverado.

i know the ridgeline is equipped with a trailer brake kit (with the factory towing kit) but i'm not sure about the pilot. i'll check the electrical manual later to see if it's supported.

the towing kit?
Hitch, wiring harness, ball hitch, drop hitch pin (or locking pin).
Trailer brake kit = control unit, wiring harness, some sort of a brake force sensor wether it be gravity or brake pedal sensor

I wonder if my Pilot has this? Not that I would ever use it anyway

The Ridgeline is pre-wired for a trailer brake controller (you get a pigtail with the towing package) -- you have to buy the controller seperately.

The Pilot does not have this wiring.

Since we're on the subject of towing with a Pilot. My 04 Pilot factory hitch has a sticker with tow ratings 4500 boat trailer and 3900 other trailer/auto

what the hell is the difference? I want to see if it would be say to tow my CRX race car on an open trailer. weight of trailer about 1500lbs CRX about 2200 lbs

anyone clear this up?

Honda rates it that way because a boat is more aerodynamic and would be easier to tow than a lighter (but much less aerodynamic) box trailer. Kinda hokey, I know.

I think you'd be able to tow your setup without a bit of trouble.

If I can tow my prelude which is twice the weight of your crx on an 18ft open trailor you will be just fine .

AH, That makes a little more sense. cool I figure when I have soem more cash and space I'd like to pick up a nice open aluminum trailer. The CRX is more of a dedicated track car now a days anyhoo. thanks
