Default my 85 accord hatch eating up TOO much gas?

OK I just filled up my full 16 gallons (4/4) yesterday and I drove only about 10-20 miles. Just this morning as I was warming up my car for about 5mins, the fuel meter showed 2/4 of the gallons left. But when I drove it to school, it only went up a little bit. As I finished class and warmed up my car, its nearly 1/4 left! Are carburated engines suppose to eat up a lot of gas? I also drive an automatic if that helps. How can I prevent this?

Fill it up again and to see if your gas guage is having a meltdown. If not you must have a leak somewhere your car should still get at least 20 mpg.

I checked and there is no leak. Well the car IS pretty old... should I just switch to a fuel injected car w/ the later accords?

Does the car run relatively fine? how does it idle..accelerate.. I say this because if your car was getting only about 4 miles a gallon you would notice some serious performance differences or you have a leak.

If it is just a gas gauge problem and the car is otherwise fine I would probably keep it around although you I'm pretty partial to the 5th gen (94-97) myself.

The car runs fine... I let it warm up every morning and it idles around 1500rpm then 800-1000rpm when its ready to be driven. What do you mean keep it around? My 85 accord?

Yeah you don't see too many 85 accords hatches anymore and I kind of like them but that is just me. But yeah if your looking to upgrade clean 4th and 5th gen accords can be found realatively cheap (3-6k).

Yeah I'm thinking about the 5th one. You think they save more gas than my car?

Yeah it should, mine (97 lx 5sp) usually gets around 30 mpg with mixed driving. I have seen as high as 35 and as low as 26.

I guess it will suck for me because I drive about 10-25 miles each day to work and school. How much do you usually pay on your accord for a full tank (it varies but w/e)?

Btw, what about the newer accords (06+)? Do they have better mpg's than the older models?
