also have a question about oil return line

I have a 5/8 Barb return tapped into myoil pan.

What kind of oil drain flange shall I get

Obviously I have a 5/8th drain line too.

it does not matter if you run a -3 or -4 line
you are always supose to run a .06 restrictor for t seris non ball bearing turbos and a .03 restrictor for ball bearing turbos

DONT run a resistrictor on a standard journal bearing turbo...Run a -3an line and if you have a good oil drain you will not have a problem...

not 100% true.

i say buy one, have it handy. if you dont want to use it and your turbo ends up not smoking then return or sell it. if it ends up smoking then you have it around.

dont be cheap its only a few bucks.

Whats not true? You don't need a oil resistrictor period...If only you saw how many calls and turbos we recieve for rebuilds due to people running oil restrictors....

can you give us a number of how many of these turbos you receive. Also what brand and setup they were running -- any other clues as to why they need a rebuild? kinked return lines maybe?

also... any pics of your HD? i've searched and can't find anything

I put a restrictor in every turbo I install. Never had one fail but I have replaced lots of turbos that others have installed and had blown seals from too much oil volume/pressure.

When i make mine I use a .063" or .070" for non BB.

maybe i have bad luck or something but with -3an feed and 3/4" i.d return hose i had some smoking on 1 brand new garrett t25 , one dsm 14b.a restrictor solved the problem. now i use a .055" restrictor on my t3 and i ahve no problems. i even put a gauge on it after the restrictor just to check the pressure.

5-7psi at idle and 28-30 psi from 4krpm to redline. my current t3 has been happy on this for over 20k miles.

like i said, go spend the few bucks and buy one, if you end up needing it you have it. if you end up not needing it then your out 15 bucks. who cares about 15 bucks?

I tend to trust Peakboost on this one.. just a hunch seeing as he builds turbo motors for a living.

If you have a good drain too much oil won't be a problem. Just keep an eye on it to be sure.

x2....

I see the same **** everyday. We rebuild 3 or 4 turbochargers a week and I cant stress these same points. With a proper drain you shouldnt need a restrictor. But the Garrett GT series turbos do come with a restrictor built in and so does Turbonetics. Most of you dont realize this because the fitting is usually attached to the turbocharger already.

what about non bb turbonetics? I assume its the same as the non GT garretts in that it doesn't come with a restrictor...
