Default cams.

hey . . .
i've been looking around for getting upgraded cams, and my final two thoughts have come down to . . .

civic type r cams
skunk2 stage 2 cams.

i've done more research on the ctr cams, because that's what i'm leaning more toward, and i've come to the conclusion that ctr cams with itr valvesprings are a good choice, but unfortunately, i couldn't figure out whether or not i need new valves and retainers, since the ctr cams are pretty much "stock", if you will. i was also considering skunk2 cam gears. so what's the best match for ctr cams (valvesprings, valves if needed, retainers if needed)

now skunk2. . . i haven't really done that much research on this, but i know they are more aggressive than the ctr cams. at 1mm lift, ctr cams are 243/235 while skunk2 stage 2's are 266/262. so what's the best match for skunk2 cams (valvesprings, valves if needed, retainers if needed)

i don't know which ones to pick. i've heard both good and bad things about both of them. if any of you guys have either of these cams, please tell me how you like them, or how you don't like them.

help would be greatly appreciated

It would help TREMENDOUSLY if you told us what motor you are running!? How bout a total c/r, what intake and header you are running, and what engine management you have? All of those play big big factors, and a budget would help.

I'm drunk

well . . . i have a gsr motor, hence the name
intake, i have an akimoto, but i'm going to get an aem v2 or a tsuchinoko intake (j's racing whale *****) pretty soon.
header, is stock atm, but i have a greddy 4-2-1 coming in by friday.
engine management is vafc.
budget, no more than 600 for the pair.

I have skunk2 stg. 2's with skunk2 springs/retainers and supertech valves that work great except I expected more midrange, but my friend of mine has ctr cams with itr valvetrain and pretty much same setup as me in both gsr motors. We did a couple of runs against eachother, and he would pull alittle through 3-5k rpms, but after that I would just take off at high end, ending up beating him by 3 cars. Overall I would choose skunk2 stg. 2's but alittle costly compared to ctr's.

dc2, thanks for your input.

so basically, ctr cams are good midrange, but skunk2 is good at peak? when i hit vtec, i want to hit vtec haha. well is the high-range power is more important?

Yea these cams kick in hard at top end, right when vtec hits.

yeah well this is probably what i'll get now =]
jhp usa sells them together for like 558-ish, last i recall, but where did you get your cams? and how much were they?
would the skunk2 springs/retainers and supertech valves be the best match? or can you recommend something else?

thanks

edit: jhpusa carries the skunk2 stage 2 PAIR for 479 usd, not shipped.
