Car Electricity PROBLEMS HELP!!
On Wednesday night I needed to drive about 75 miles from Germantown, MD to Woodbridge Virginia. Basically in the process my caught fire at my friends house quick after running over a trash bag in the middle of the street. It was right on the catalyc converter and it was almost damn near impossible to stop it so I quickly was able to throw water behind the intake manifold landing on the header and off the firewall using a hose from the side of the car. The fire came to end and the interior all smoked up. I turned the car on and ready to make sure there was no plastic at the time so another fire could start up. Soon after I was back on my way to VA. Abouth 30 miles in about 5 miles left on the 95 South my cars electricity dimmed. Gauges were dim, I even noticed headlights were dim. Soon my 6 Disc Changer read error and stopped working. My Speedometer stopped working. Finally my Tachometer stopped working. I started freaking out when I noticed sluggish throttle response to only notice the car die out and I quickly merged to the emergency lane. Help came to the rescue from the highway as they jump started me. The car stayed on with the booster pack on but soon after the removed it instantly the car died. So towing was my only choice. I got to my destination on a tow. I started at removing the alternator, checked it out at Advance and it was running 14.8 Volts which is perfect. As I noticed my O2 sensor on the car was burned up so 4 wires I believe just dangling against each other. I was sure this could not be the problem and only throw a Check Engine light. Basically when I came to start the car up again I jump start from my friends car and everytime I put the cables on my battery the battery would make a wierd noise like air of the sort. Conclusion came the battery was bad. I removed it and soon to see it was cracked on the side. I bought a brand new battery on the same day which was now Sunday. Car started up like a champ and sounded nice. Check engine light was flashing but before it was steady. Now the car I noticed the Speedometer still did not work. Still it didnt bother me. I drove all the way to Germantown and I drove to school and work on Monday. Today Tuesday I am heading to my cousins when I notice a dim in my check engine light. I came to a gas station turned off the car to ask for directions and come back to a car that wont start. I rolled it down the hill popped it in 1st and wow the car started up still with dim lights. I let it idle and revved higher to hope for more charge from the alternator but nothing same low dim. I was able to drive to my cousins home were he soon jump started me and the lights and rpms worked. Soon after removing the cables the lights dimmed I hoped to get home with no problem. Its about 10 miles so I drove home car struggling a little on throttle response but she made it home. What is causing this? My cousin suggested a bad ground wire.
P.S! Speedo Jumps at start up then dies.
