Default Stock Water Temp Gauge: Input Voltage to Temperature Conversion?

I'd like to remove my OEM Temp Gauge in the Cluster and replace it with a digital readout for water temp. Perhaps I'll also add a oil temp reading too if I can read it off the OEM wiring somewhere.

I'm an EE, so the project isn't a big deal, but I just need to know the conversion from Voltage -> Temperature.

Any help or references would be appreciated, I'll post a DIY when I'm done.

The ECT sensor isn't based off voltage. It is a thermistor that uses resistance values to measure water temperature.

There is a semi decent graph of the resistance values are certain temperatures in the factory service manual, but it the values aren't accurate enough to anything with.

I'm talking about the signal that goes into the back side of the temperature gauge - the one in your gauge cluster

That one also uses resistance. At 133* F, the resistance is 137 ohms. At 185*F, the resistance is 46 ohms. At 212* F, the resistance is 30 ohms.

Excellent, thats pretty much what I need to know
What's your source for this? It would be handy to have a curve if possible.

I got it straight out of the Acura factory service manual. Sorry, but there is no curve. Those are the only three values it gives for troubleshooting purposes.

Thanks, I should be able to figure it out from there.

Any chance there is an oil temp sensor somewhere?

No, to my knowledge, there is no oil temp sensor anywhere on the car. You would need to look into an aftermarket sender unit for that.
