Replaced my F22B w/a F20B;will it work?what fuel mgtmt adjustments required?
Hello all. I'm a total N00B concerning car repairs, but dire circumstances have forced me to try & learn quick.
Living in Central CA and managed to blow/warp the head on my '95 Accord EX back when our summer temps were 110-115 deg. in July. Hashing over getting it milled & rebuilt after unsuccessful attempt at just replacing the gastket, some friends suggested getting a JDM used motor off eBay. My car has an F22B; the motor I picked up off eBay is an F20B. The ad said it was for a '94-'95 Accord.
I ended up getting one for $500 that looks and feels great, but only slowly realized that an 'F20' designation must compare w/a 'F22' designation because of engine displacement(?); an F20 is a 2.0L while a F22 is a 2.2L,yes?
My gear-head friends who have been helping me do the 'heart-transplant' didn't notice anything but I got suspicious when I tried to obtain intake gaskets, etc from local parts shops.
To put it simply, is this a 'significantly' weaker engine such that I'll have operational problems(just a driving car,not a racing/show-off'mobile) and what kind of adjustments need I make to the fuel management system, assuming it might be feeding too much fuel in its original, F22 set-up?
Please excuse my ignorance;just attempting to salvage an otherwise excellent and trusty car.
Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
Anton

Alright, what color is the valve cover? Also, do you know if it is the SOHC or DOHC version? Either way, the F20B was never in America to my knowledge, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. You are correct in that it is a 2.0 liter motor, but I think its output is comparable to the F22b2 or the H23a1, somewhere from 130-160 hp (keep in mind these are guesses). I would go to say do not assume that it is weaker and needs less fuel because it is smaller, for instance the H22 is a 2.2L motor and has nearly 200hp and needs more fuel, while my F23a5 is a 2.3L but I barely make 135hp with less fuel. Good luck with finding some more help, hope it all works out.
Oh yeah, the only other thing I could think of is it has a different engine computer, so the fuel problems might stem from the tuning of the F22b2 ECU, as opposed the the F20b ECU.

well i far as i know, i could be wrong, but the F20B has never been available in the us. im pretty sure that is has around 200 hp@8000rpm/ and around 140lb-ft@7500... anyways but yea ^^^^^^ was right all i can think of is having to get a ecu that was for your engine that you have now.

you are thinking about the DOHC f20B from the Accord SiR-T/SiR (Torneo). There are 3 different F20b's, one SOHC and 2 DOHC's. One looks like an H23 with a black valve cover and the best one has a blue cover. I think he has the SOHC.

i dont know how many people are going to keep saying this....the f20b does not come out of a type-r, the DOHC F20B comes out of a JDM accord SiR-T and Accord SiR.

My mistake, the H22a7 is from the Accord Type R. I get them confused.
