I wish I had a picture of this motor. Looking at the motor. we have the valve cover in front then the three spark plug wires, extending into the head mating against the plugs. Directly beneth the three ring circles in the head wear the wires sit, oil seems to be seeping out of the motor. What is this called? Is there a name of this seal, is this the headgasket? Can oil even leak from there?

What are the major types of gaskets and seals and where are they located? I would like to learn this terminology in part diagnosing this problem.

 

lifter cover plates; they have a really thin gasket and it gets cooked and cracks/shrinks then starts leaking.

 

Its pretty easy to change. I think its like 8 little bolts that hold it on. I bought the gasket set (both sides) for like $10-12. Only took about 20-30 min.

yeah thats it. You should change both while u are at it. It should come in a set of 2

 

make sure your pcv valve is good, if it is blocked up the oil is gonna go through any alternate route it can find.
