Re-using Bearings..........
I have been taking my old 98 SH motor apart to inspect bearings and the piston rings. Well, all the main/rod bearings look flawless and i was wondering if it was possible to re-install these bearings as long as i put em back in the correct journals/rods. Also, do the cylinders still need to be rehoned even if i replace my OEM pistons with new OEM rings?
I've never rebuilt an engine, but whenever we open up a gearbox, pump, or motor - we ALWAYS change the bearings, no matter if it's rebuild or just simple repair. That's pretty much a commandment when dealing with a rotating object. "Re-use" and "bearings" shouldn't even be in the same sentence, in my opinion.
I'm also pretty sure that new rings = rehone, but I'm def not the expert there...
EDIT: Ok, yes and yes.

Cool. Just making sure. I know it was a noob q, but you tend to wonder and nothing showed up on the search. I agree though, "re-use" and "bearings" just didnt sound right. Its almost like putting "re-use" and "condom" together..
Yeah, i know about the plastigauge. I havent quite decided whether im gonna rebuild the motor and drop it in a EK/EG or sell it. I just want to make sure of everything that would have to be replaced so i can pass the info on who ever buys it. So far it looks like new bearings, piston rings, bore/hone and a new oil pump.
