Default Audio Upgrade, Fiberglass Box build....05 S2k

Well last night i decided i am going to upgrade the audio, first off i built a custom fiberglass box that would flush mount in the trunk, for a Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 2 10"subwoofer. and i also made a trim piece out of some carbon fiber look alike stuff i got froma buddy that works at Southern Comfort....they use this stuff to vaccum form stuff and cover stock interior pieces. but anyways heres the start. i haven't primed the box yet, i'm about to get to that. but here is after a day of work.

Quick question, why did you build the box out of wood and than fiberglass over it? Why not just fiberglass the whole bottom to take advatage of the air space?

okay theres a few answers and aspects you look at when building the box.
1. Time, alot faster, easier.
2. Money, Fiberglass resin is 30 to 60 bucks a gallon and why spend that kind of money when you can make the bottom out of mdf for half the cost of one gallon of resin. there was no complex shapes i needed to work around, so mdf did just fine. Plus making the bottom thick enough not to flex would of added alot more time and need to mention, alot mor mess. to me sometimes clean and simple are better.
3. The top was fiberglass for just cosmetic reasons...we all want everything to lookg good.
4. Subwoofer Specs. the sub, i choose only needs .65 cu ft of airspace. so bigger is not better.
5.P210S4
10" Punch P2 4-ohm SVC Subwoofer
Rockford Fosgate has always been known for PUNCHED up bass, and the P2 10" subwoofers certainly continue with the tradition. An easy addition to almost any vehicle since they perform best in small enclosures.
6. The sub weighs in at about 12lbs.
