Default Clicking/thumping while turning right...

Would this be the left axle?

Yes, the left (outer) was torn. I don't know for how long. I cleaned the joint and put a new boot on (and grease). So the joint is probably junk?

if the cv boot is torn then you should see grease/oil spill out.

you can replace the cv boot but its much easier to just replace the axle.
(i did not know you can clean it...)

The grease did spin out, all over the wheel well. I already had to replace the passenger axle and I want to make sure it's another bad axle because I can hardly afford rent.

I don't know if it helps, but I only hear the noise when the wheel is turned a certain amount. Just about perfect for in-town right turns.

How did you check if they were good? Shouldn't the outer join pivot harder than the inner?

That was most likely your problem. Though I would have just replaced the whole entire axle. In short, yes, if it was running w/o the CV boot torn and the dirt 'n **** was going in there as the oil and greese are coming out then the joint is good as ****. You replaced the boot...so the joint is bad now.

My advice: Take the boot back off and replace the joint, make sure the whole system is cleaned REALLY thoroughly or it can just lead to another broken CV joint or boot sometime in the near future. Make sure the new boot is completely clean too, then put it back on...and see if you still have the problem.

well i took a look and both sides looks normal besides age. boots werent torn and no leak or oil.

i suggest to just go to autozone and get some new axles with lifetime warranty. but if its cheaper to replace the joint since you already did the boot then go right ahead.

Thanks Syndicate. Someone told my girlfriend her alignment was torn because someone put axles in her Protege wrong. Is this true? How could you put them in wrong?

Anyways, ever since I replaced the left boot, my car pulls to the left hard. Is this because I ruined the joint when I took it apart. And now it pivots rougher and slows the left side of the car down? Thanks

I suppose it's very possible her alignment is off if you put an axle in WRONG. I'm not even sure how you put an axle in wrong, but if it's in wrong it's most likely out of alignment in some shape or form.

Yes, the reason your car is pulling hard to the left is because the CV joint is fucked up the ***. You didn't ruin the joint when you took it apart. When your CV boot tore alll the dirt got up in there and all the grease/oil came out. So the joint lost all lubrication and it's the basic oncept of just pouring sand into a hinge...ruins it, fast.

Yeah, it'll be ******* up pretty bad until you get that CV joint replaced. Like I said though, just make sure you take off the boot and clean the whole area (including the inside of the new boot) THOROUGHLY before putting the boot back on. You'd be surprised what a little bit of grit can do to a CV joint or boot.

YEah, I'm just getting a new axle.

Syn, while you are online I have another question... When I'm in 5th gear (no matter the speed, it could be 30mph-80mph) and I hit the gas fast and get the car to jerk I hear a different noise from the front right. It's like a suspension piece is loose but I checked it all. And it's no the right axle because it's brand new today.

The weirdest part is you can only hear the noise clearly inside the car, but you can tell its on the outside. Do you think its a bad shock absorber? Thanks again.

Check:

- Tourque on lug nuts
- Loose heat shield / cat
- axle is snug in casing and spindle.
- spindle nut is correctly positioned with a little bit of axle thread showing.
- brake dust shield isn't banging on things
