Default Good Scratch/Oxidation remover?

Pretty soon I was thinking about doing the full waxing process. Washine thouroughly, scratch/oxidation remover, haze remover/polish (?), then the actual wax. I was considering Maguiar's products but I wanted to hear what you all had to say. My oxidation is horrible on the rear bumper (Barbie Integra ) but its very slight on the rest of the rear of the car. I heard that Maguiar's can actually REMOVE the already oxidized paint exposing a fresh layer underneath. Any suggestions would be very helpful as this stuff is not cheap

I have always used meguier's and had wonderful luck. It always took my dull canvas and made it new again. I use the professional grade line in the tan bottle. It is pricey, and that's what I hate about it, but everytime I buy a cheaper brand, I am not happy with the results. I end up going back to meguiers and doing it again.

I also searched for a solution just like yourself... I ended up going with Meguiars 3 step process.. (red bottles)

1st - paint care - light swirl mark and oxidation remover.. Worked amazing, got rid of all the light swirl marks, the deep ones you can still kinda see, but the paint looks great.

2nd - polish - liquid polish, makes it look really wet and a little "deep" to it.

3rd - carnuba wax - made the surface very smooth, i threw a towel on the hood and it just slid right down like it weighed nothing.

Make sure you use 100% cotton terry towels, I was using those blue shop towels at first, and switched to the terry and it was much easier. I also used the Meguar's Applicator pads for each step, just one pad per step, they come in packs of 4 for like 5$

Each bottle was about 12$, and it was definately worth the money. Hell it wasn't that expensive!

If you walk into a store and find Meguiars stuff, they should be side by side.. It has a picture of a Ferrari Modena on the bottle, each step is a diff color, red black red I think. Anyway, grab each bottle but don't expect to spend less than 3 hours working on everything!!

Good Luck

Alex

There is nothing that compares to the products from 3M. Meguiars doesn't even come close. If you want a product that removes light oxidation and swirlmarks look no further than the 3M Perfect-It Foam Polishing Pad Glaze Swirlmark Remover. There are two versions, one for light colors and one for dark colors.

I've used this for over 2 years now and it does the job. Although for this spring cleaning I want to try the 3M Finesse-It II Finishing Material 39003. It is one step higher than the 39009. It it slightly more abrasive and is meant for the medium oxidation and swirls.

eTc knows is very much correct!

Meguiars does have good products, but it doesn't compair to 3M when it comes to polishes.

Basicly any polish is going to remove alittle bit of paint, and help oxidation in doing so. If you have heavy swirls and scratches, you might need a buffer to get most of them out.

Thought this would be helpful for everyone: http://www.classic-accessories.com/whichwaxisbest.html

I myself use Meguiars Medallion Premium Paint Protection. Its ok I guess. I'm just using it up because it cost me freakin 20 bucks.

I've been wanting to try One Grand Blitz Carnuba Wax over the synthetic. I hear this stuff gives a great shine with decent protection.

Would you suggest removing the 3M product by hand or machine?

For removal its best by hand. You don't want any friction of the buffer machine to touch the paint without it any lubrication.

I just ordered 09009 and 06005. Free shipping from 3M. Not bad.

You should really be using those 2 3m products with a machine for best possible results. Finesse-it is meant to be used with a rotary buffer w/ a yellow wool pad. The perfect-it should be used with a rotary buffer with a foam pad. I guess you can use the prroducts by hand but high speed really brings out the true potential of these products. Trust me, I've been detailimg for about 6 years now professionally.
