Default Rear seal leaking after honda changed tranny?

I posted this in the Accord specific sight, I didnt see this tech forum before posting, so sorry for the repeat, I'm a newbie here, well here it goes

I have a 2003 Accord EXV6 and the tranny went out at 96K miles, well after getting it back from Honda (it was a warranty replacement) now the rear main seal is leaking, I drive almost 400 miles a day round trip to work, so I noticed it at about 104K miles, I still have warranty for the tranny repair but my Honda warranty expired at 100K and they say it has nothing to do with them and they couldn't have caused that?? does any one know if that's true? to me it seems if you install the tranny and maybe let the jack down before its torqued to the motor , damage might be possible? well I cant afford to have this done and I'm convinced it is related to them changing out the tranny, The service manager even told me its not the rear seal I've only seen one of those go bad in all the years I've been around Honda's and that was a car that had been sitting for several years, well not that they confirmed it is that seal, now he says, yeah they do go bad some times, My shop formum says he's seen a few of them go bad, how the story changes, and if I want it fixed it's out of my pocket.

so does any one know if the manual warns of any ways to damage the seal during the tranny R&R , or have any advise for me?

Oh and one last thing , before even looking at the car, the manager said so you think the leak has something to do with us changing the tranny? I said yes, and he replied, WELL YOUR WRONG! he hadn't even looked at the car or confirmed it was oil and not tranny fluid.

if any one has any documentation of warnings or any thing that might help me, please forward it to me, my email is scmyattb1@comcast.net

Thanks Brian

I'm not sure of the design of the newer motors, but on just about every motor i've seen, it would be damn near impossibe to accidentally damage the rear main seal.

It's usually recessed slightly into the engine block.

correct there is no way for damage on engine seal but it might be the pump on the trans did you verify what kind of fluid is leaking

This is true, but if it was leaking Honda service should of contacted you and asked if you would like it done because it was leaking. That is if they noticed it leaking.

Gotta love the customer service

Just a thought, tell me if I am right. If there was dirt on the crank end and they slid the flexplate on would this push the dirt into the seal? Or if there was a shaving on the flexplate... Maybe???

I checked it out before I took it in, it's oil, not tranny fluid, no one contacted me about the leak while they had it and it didnt start dripping on my drive way untill I had it back for a week and a half, and I had put about three thousand miles on it by then, I cleaned it up and drove it to the dealer and arranged to have them look at it the following week, I drove it for about 5 more days and no leaks on the drive way, so it takes a week or more to form a drip, just about the same amount of time from when I picked it up after the tranny change and when I noticed it leaking, I think I'm screwed.
