Bad abnormally worn inner edge of tread.
I have a problem on the passenger front tire. The abnormally worn tire is badly worn for about 1 inch on the inner portion of the tread, down almost to some of the cords or wires in the belt, I think. The rest of the tread is nice and even. OEM stock size tire and no rubbing on suspension or car. Wheels were aligned within the last year. Suspension is pure stock, nothing lowered nor lifted. Suspension components are tight, no sloppy bushings. Street driving only, no track use. Don't recall hitting any really bad potholes. Only the passenger side, driver's side tire is wearing evenly. Anybody know what would have caused this?
if the tire is worn only part of the tread like you said about one inch and the rest of the tire is smooth then you may have a defective tire that has a belt edge sepo........i would take it in to a tire shop that know's what they are doing and have them look at it
Is this the only tire this happened with? Have you tried another tire on that corner with the same experience? (Have you rotated the tires?)
In addition to a possible problem with the tire itself, this can also be caused by improper alignment, and/or by damaged suspension components (worn/cracked bushings, bent control arms or tie rods, that sort of thing).

I took a look at the whole shebang. I do rotate my tires from front to back, always keeping the rotation direction the same. I know the tires were wearing evenly before the latest alignment was done. A while after the alignment was done, I rotated the tires. The tires have been run in this position for almost a year.
So what I have found is that the right front tire is in the bad shape as described, with the inner tread worn to the belt cord, in one place. The left front tire is very worn on the inner tread. The 2 rear tires are worn on the inner tread, although not nearly as bad probably because they were in the front for only a few months prior to rotation.
After reading some posts about alignment symptoms on the tires, I found and can describe that the inner tread has been scrubbed such that the shoulder/tread is rounded. I can feel the directional scraping too. So my assessment is that the alignment was poorly done by the shop, with them leaving a toe-out situation.

Thanks for the help.

To confirm this assesment have a alignment done and have them give you a before and after report of every parameter. You will see if something was way out of adjusment or if all parameters were in spec. If everything was within spec than it is another problem you have, if something was messed up than it was most likely your alignment causing the odd wear. Also some shops will give a quick gander at your suspension for free, ask politely.
Cheers.

No. I do not have the spec sheet for that last alignment. I do not recall getting a spec sheet for that one.
Even if the spec sheet would have shown "book" adjustments, the proof is in the pudding where the tire wear is evidence of incorrect adjustments.
