Default Muffler choice for straightpipe... suggestions needed

next weekend my local exhaust shop is making me a straightpipe and i need to get a muffler for it... i have a choice of going to a tuner shop down the street and i can buy a Ractive muffler, brand new, for a little over a hundred dollars... or i can just find one and order it off the internet...

so my question is, should i go ahead and buy the Ractive, or should i try and shop for something with better quality.. im just trying to get something that wont be a piece of ****, and im kinda new to exhausts so please help me out here. thanks =]

2.5 inch staight pipe side exit in front of rear passenger tire with slash cut so exhaust doesn't get on body.

Sounds like a V8 but I don't drive it in town either.

I hope you're getting a resonator.

I recommend a magnaflow, or dynomax universal oval muffler. It looks stock, but flows well.

I recommend getting a ES Tuning muffler. They sound great, deep throttle sound and looks like a stock muffler. Click on the pic for more info...

Can we try and stay on topic for once? Take the bench racing to PM's.

You can get nice stainless steel Magnaflow's from Jeg's for cheaper then that. I bought all the piping, clamps, turn down and muffler from Jeg's for around $120 shipped. I cut and pre fit everything and then just had the local muffler shop weld it together and weld some hangers on. I would either go with that or a KTeller set-up which I had one of his pre-made 2.5" set-ups on the car prior which came with a magnaflow oval stock looking muffler and was very pleased with it.

I haven't decided on my street setup yet. 2.5 with a 18" resonator and thinking about the obx twin loop because I have actually heard good things even though it is obx.
A guy here somewhere posted a soundclip from one. Otherwise not sure what muffler I am going to use. Something that doesn't have a 4" tip though.

2.5 or 3" tip is what I am looking for.

Hatch is actually gonna end a B18C1 bottom with PR3-3 head type R springs, retainers, cams, Intake manifold, 64 mm throttle body, clutch is rated 400 ft lbs with a Y21 LSD tranny. So far all you haters yeah it beats up on most mustangs and camaro's also beat up on a Rousch but its automatic convertible soooooo.
Will have dyno sheet thursday night and 1/4 slips after friday, saturday.

Why do you constantly use present and future references about the same subject? You keep saying "it's gonna end up" but in the same breath you're also saying "it beats up on most mustangs and camaro's" (dunno why ownership of camaros through a " ' " exists but that's irrelavant) and "is still faster than most V8's around here"

Pick one, either it is, or it isn't. If it IS and you haven't installed your **** GSR swap and your B16 hatch is smoking all the V8's in your area, your area ******* sucks. If you haven't done it yet, you STILL won't be able to beat a lot of V8's because your super GSR build there..SUCKS.. You'll be lucky to pull 220whp outta that build, w/ all the money you're dumping in for springs and retainrs and ****.....

First you don't post unless someone else has something to say that you can repeat. I have read alot of your posts and none are original and usually about the 5th or 6th one down. You also never give positive advice to anyone you talk to on here. So your "thoughts" don't hold stock wit me.

I don't have to defend my setup and don't have to post all details. Outside of my gsr block sitting in my garage I still have a clean and good running setup.
My build from scratch to all the parts I have now minus gsr block is just under 1800.00 That includes everything I have done. Even my LSD tranny.

So the money put into this is at a minimum. My area does suck but it is domestic heaven and truck central.

I would have to go with The E-S tuning muffler too. I have the polished exhaust on my coupe and it looks and sounds great.

i have a 2.5" muffler that a baught for my jetta that was totalled before i installed it, its a magnaflow, now surte waht series, straight through. How much quieter will this make it on a stock exhaust, say removing the muffler on a stock exhaust verson swapping it with the magnaflow muffler, how much quiter? I'll i'm looking for is stock-like sound taking it easy, and on the highway, but when i'm having fun on dirt roads i wanna hear where i am at in rpm range, not ahve to look, not having bucket seats and having to use left foot on the foot rest instead of playing the clutch is ******* me up enough already, i dont want to keep looking down at tach....
