Default Pop-up headlights

While bored and playing Forza on my Xbox I was wondering why more cars do not have pop-up headlights. I mean, I love the look of the older Miatas to the newer ones (not the newest) and hands down the older NSXs look better than the new ones without pop-up headlights, so I was wondering why new cars don't have them. Is it just an asthetics question? aerodynamics? More prone to break (because of the opening mechanism, if it breaks at night, ver ydangerous)? Discuss.. I guess.

think about it....most cars with pop up headlights came around in 88-90.

it might seem omg so cool but the idea is really, really old. why do you think chevy killed it on their corvettes?

id say in a car vs person accident pop up lights would do more damage, may have been banned for safety purposes.

Plus could u actually see a new car being designed with them, i think they might be concidered a bit cliche in modern car design

old early 90s car styling. Alot of cars at that time had popup headlights.

early 2000 car styling is about altezza tail lights.
styles comes and goes.

I agree that it was the style 15 years ago but I was just asking why it didn't catch on. I know that it might seem crazy, new cars with pop-up headlights. But if you really think about it it could work, for small cars like the Yaris maybe.

Its not a big deal I was just expressing sadness for the better (in my opinion) styled NSX and Miata. Though the corvette looks better now than with pop-up headlights.

And they weigh more and cost more to make than a conventional stationary housing.

Cost might be an issue but there are a lot of things automaker do for asthetics that they can save money on.

saving money+pedestrian safety+longer design time+higher msrp as result=dead technology.
