Default Is this a REAL HKS SSQV??!?!

I bought this from ebay, it was supposed to be a Greddy RS "style" but I got this one instead

Unlike my previous Ebay SSQV "style" this one is totally different

The outer casing isn't chrome or plastic. The middle bullet isn't silver, its purple. It doesn't have the adjustment screw like the other knockoff's. The bolts and nuts are actually a decent quality compared to my last one. BUT there aren't any stickers on it, nor did it come with any

So could the have screwed up and sent me a REAL one?

pics: (sorry for the camera phone quality )

usually the real ones have HKS in yellow on top and this one is plain...my friend bought a knock off SSQV and it had the purple circle and said HKS SSQV in letters in the inside but outside was also just plain....to be honest doesnt really matter they all work the same

edit:

nah its prolly fake unlessed the revised the design. My REAL SSQV has an adjustment bold on the top/back of it where yours just has a blanked out spot (should be right under the nipple)

the new SQV's don't have the adjustment screw either...thats why i was wondering if it was real...because the fakes have the adjustment screw. this one is NOTHING like my old fake one...its much better quality, so its either real or a really good fake.

yeah i was actually gonna say real til i saw no adjustment screw. If the new ones have no screw then I would say that one is real it is identical to mine [sans the adjustment screw]. Mine is real old tho, like at least 5 years heh, still works awesome!

I say real then!

oh, i forgot to add. the c-clip that came with it actually has a groove edge unlike the fake one i had last. and the o-ring is black instead of red.

fake:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem
notice the chrome bolts in the back, and the adjustment screw.

real:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem
they go onto say "Special Note: This item is 100% real from HKS. This is not a cheap copy like the ones made in China. This comes from HKS and is from HKS. Most of the fake HKS SSQV Blow off valves have a adjustment screw on the back of the Blow off valve. That is how you can tell if it is fake."

i'm saying its real, it was supposed to be a Greddy RS fake, but instead they gave me a real HKS

My guess is that it's just his personal opinion like 90% of the statements you see here on H-T......coupled with no factual data to back the statement up.

That's kind of gay that he was so dismissive to the previous SSQV's, but the racing bypass is actually a pretty good BOV.

i'll put money on it being just one of the newer copies. the newer hks's have the letters etched into them

I say it's the only real HKS BOV because I have had experience with all of the HKS BOV's unlike many of you.

The first two SQV designs were leak prone turds!! If it didn't leak at the c-clip retainer it leaked from from within the ultra shitty design that was created to make a different sound. I have seen instances were the SQV leaked so bad an engine couldn't produce boost. This was an "out of the box" install. The user got the item replaced under warranty only to have an internal failure. The guy changed to an ARC after wasting so much time on the HKS SQV.

The later versions of the SQV are overly designed lothargic pieces of dung that are produced to appeal to the FNF crowd. Because of it's new design with multiple passageways, the SSQV reacts slower than the original SQV and lightyears slower than the real HKS Racing BOV. The racing version of the SSQV is "OK" but for the money there are much much much better performing BOV's on the market.

The real racing BOV is a large diameter piston BOV that reacts fast and is used on actual HKS race cars. Springs can be bought to fit the users intended boost level. People shy away from the HKS racing/Greddy Type R because they do not realize you can buy different springs for it.

AF-P - was that better?

good info i use the SSQV the gen1? i guess it had the gold lettered HKS SSQV sticker on it.

I like it, it works for my street/DD needs, i can see where its slow on the reaction tho cause i can hear like half a surge before it opens, but eh.

Good info- if a BOV werent such an arbitrary piece of a turbo system i might worry more but since its just a relief valve meh

1st Gen SSQV right here. Never had any problems with over that past 4 years that it has been used. Doesn't leak and no compressor surge whatsoever.
