Default installed mfactory FD (4.64) w/ si 5th gear on an m2f4

What's up fellas. I wanted to share some good experiences with the Mfactory FD.

I do mostly DD but really desired a few b-series gearing so I decided to go with the 4.64 FD with the .812 m2s4 (4th gen Si) 5th gear for my m2f4 upgrade. A friend and I decided this because it would calculate to be the same as my m2f4 5th gear (.870) prior to the FD install. The Si counter shaft 5th gear *** needed to be shaved a little bit to fit but with the help of a fellow H-T guru, everything worked out.

*** note: this is the part that the bearings sit on and not the actually gear teeths themselves that were shaved.

My FD came from Hong Kong to my door step in So. Cal in just two days (thanks Stephen)

The built quality is impressive with zero fitment issues to report. The oem gears and the 1-2 synchro set fits perfectly on the Mfactory counter shaft. The diff. gear fits perfect as well. Tranny runs smooth with no whine.

Driving a prelude with a shorter final drive is amazing. Car feels like weight has been removed and/or power has been added. My fifth gear is still the same overall so freeway gas milage should be the same for my long distance excursions.

There's a plethora of info on the pro's and con's of FD's. I simply wanted to illuminate to everyone another successful story from someone who seeks an alternative to thousand dollar FD's.

i didn't bother taking pics b/c 577HondaPrelude already did a fantastic job. (BTW, Thanks Walter for answering my q's a few months back)

Glad to hear it worked out for you!

it was 550 shipped. the guy there in Hong Kong was great. very prompt with his emails (just make sure you catch him @ his local time)

i was a bit worried at first since it was all the way across the pacific ocean but i've since bought stuff from Stephen with full confidence.

I'm satisfied with mine too, no noticable whine yet. I had to wait 2 weeks though, but oh well.

it doesn't whine because the gear teeth are oem style...slanted.

if, otoh, they were straight cut, you'll sound like race cars.

NP. I'm glad you like the FD. I know I love it in my car.
In a few months (over the off season) I'm going to open the tranny up again and check everything out. Everything seems fine, but I want to make sure. I also might sell my Quaife LSD and try the Kaaz LSD instead for next year. I'm still getting lots of inside wheel spin on some turn. Either way I will take some picutes of how well the FD gears are holding up.
