DIY SRS LIGHT BYPASS PLUG

**(This is my first write up)** Please Put in FAQ Section of 92-00CIVIC/DEL SOL

Have you disable your airbag? Be it your driver side with an aftermarket steering wheel, or have just take your passenger bag out for what the reason. So now you have the damn SRS light stuck on? Well how do I fix the SRS system? Why shouldn't I just take the srs bulb out. By taking the SRS bulb out, your srs system still has a break in the system. So even if you have an airbag in which ever side that is still hooked up. The chances of it going off might not happen since you have a open circut in the SRS System. I am going to show you how to fix and, correct the issue by fooling the system.

TOOLS REQUIRED

1 Soldering Iron
1 Roll of solder
2.2 OHM RESISTOR **note make sure it's a plain 2.2 OHM RESISTOR. Not a 2.2K <-- Kilo Incorrect value
1 set of wire stripers
Small amount of Heat shrink tube
And cut connector from an old airbarg

Take and cut off the plug on your airbag or exploded air bag. This way it's a plug and play type connector.


Strip both sides of the SRS connector.
Solder in the 2.2OHM Resistor


Apply the heatshrink over the 2.2 OHM Resistor for protection.

Now plug in your newly made srs-bypass plug.

Now you'll have to reset the SRS System.

Under dash there should be a yellow plug. I usually take two long wires and use them to close and open the connection when needed....

1st step in erasing the memory is to turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service connector to the MES Plug,

2nd Turn Ignition on. SRS indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.

3rd Disconnect SCS service connector for MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come on again.

4th Reconnect SCS service connector the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes on. SRS indicator light will go off.

5th Disconnect SCS service connector from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.

6th Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal. You have reset your SRS light. Done

i did this to a friend's ek using a different resistor. now that resistor is no longer being made.

I haven't removed any airbags and my damn SRS light will not turn off Jumped/reset and still on

this is my local supplier for the resitor and any eletronic parts i have need. Location San Diego. But you can get any 2.2 OHM resistor.. just make sure it's not a 2.2K Ohm (K-Kilo)

where is the yellow plug exactly?

 

I did the SRS reset sequence on my civic several months ago and the light stayed off for lil over a month. after it came back on and i go to do the reset again and i cant even get it to start with the first step. Anyone else have this problem and/or have any other suggestions on how to get the f@#king light off?

 

i was wondering if i could use the same progress to reset srs light w/o changing the steering wheel or using the bypass... by the way im like a noob when it comes to electric... i was wondering what is the SCS service connector and MES PLUG???? picture would really help me out here... THIS FREAKING SRS LIGHT IS FREAKEN ANNOYING ME....

so if i have an aftermarket steering wheel, i'd have to hide the srs reel somewhere under the dash right? instead of removing it completely?

 

why not pull the cluster and just disconnect the bulb from there?

because then you have to take apart your cluster, which risk the chance of breaking it ....on my ek cluster the srs bulb is behind the tach and not on the back of the cluster housing like everyother bulb

 

couldn't u just pull the brains of the srs system...?
i'm in the process of removing the complete srs system, wiring and all, while at the same time keeping cruise control and horns fully functional.
ive got a ways to go, but i'm well on my way.
anyone ever figured out which wire colors control what or made a diagram on the srs unit???

If airbag below steering wheel is unplugged is the passenger side canceled?
I need to know this because i plan on removing it and id hate for it to explode in my face or bust my windshield..

 

Pretty sure if SRS light is on, airbags are disabled, so if you want to keep passenger, may need to do the resistor trick. Thats what I have heard, so do not quote me as I may just be wrong.

I have not done this yet - I've only disconnected the passenger-side airbag from behind the glovebox, and of course, the SRS light is on. BUT, here's my question:

Since disconnecting the airbag, my stereo no longer works, as the fuse blows when the car starts. In all likelihood will the capacitor fix the problem? No elec. probs before this, btw.
