Default back dating motors

I read something once before about putting in an older motor into a newer car.
Is there something wrong with doing that, what i want to do is put in a 1990 ls motor into a 91 civic. Is there a problem with that?

Oh also some states won't allow you to put a 1.8L into a car that only came with a 1.5L and/or 1.6L but again all has to do with your own state...or if you got a hook up for inspection/emissions
