battery relocation: fuse to use for power wire?
I did a battery relocation in my 99 Infiniti G20. I've done it before on my s13 240sx but I didn't use a fuse. I also used 2 gauge wire. Anyway, I was told 4 gauge is fine (even though on the nissan boards, everyone says the motor would have a harder time starting w/ 4 gauge). So that's what I used, 4 gauge wire.. I also used a fuse.
Anyway, the fuse blew after starting the car a few times. What amp fuse should I be using for the battery?

haha just kidding dude, how old are you?
anyway i asked a vendor of audio equipment store and was told that the highest capacity fuse he has seen is 100amp. do i need to purchase a ANL style fuse holder?

Why use a ANL fuse? I'm also relocating my battery to the back of my ef. I was talking to a stereo shop guy and he told me the starter from my b16 starter will pull too much juice(more than 100A) and therefor the AGU(glass) fuse won't work, and to go with the ANL because it will withstand higher amperage. Is this the case? If so, what amp ANL fuse should I get? Thanks.

The problem is you can't get AGU fuses bigger then 100A, even if you could I would not use them, I try and not use them at all but, [customer is always right, until shown wrong] ANLs you can get up to 300+ Amps, and if you really want the right fuse get these... http://www.littelfuse.com/cgi-...yFB1C well chit, looks just like an ANL
and as you can see available up to 500A, you could run 1/0 cable and use 350A fuses, BTW the fuse is to protect the cable, 1/0 cable can handle up to 350A.

Well, if I don't need anything bigger than 80 or 100 amps, I'll just do the AGU fuse. If it's more than that, I might consider breaker. I'm still wondering about what size amp fuse is actually needed though. Thanks for the ideas.
It will depend on the power cable you use. If 4 gauge, then max is 150AMP...but anything less is fine too, as long as it's not less than what your starter needs.
Which is really what I need to know. The starter amps needed. And I think I'm going with 4 gauge, but small possibility 2 gauge. Thanks though.

So ANL fuse/holders are better then? What makes this so? I'm thinking I'm just going to go with a 100A ANL. Would that be sufficient?
Setup: b16 88crx si hybrid. Stock sounds. Looks like I'll be doing 20ft 4 ga. 900ca optima red top. Relocating battery, not adding one.

i ended up going with 150amp ANL
btw freak, if u need fuses, i bought 10 of them. they cost a grip seperate, but i'll sell u a few if u need for cheap. let me know if ur interested

PS.... 20ft of cable in a CRX, where are you relocating batt. to. a trailer?

20 for the negative and the positive cable.
SRd240sx, details on the fuses. I'm interested. PM me or post is fine.
Thanks for all the help guys.

You should not be running the neg. lead back to the engine bay, [if that's what you mean] ground the relocated batt. as close to batt. as you can, th the chassis of the car, [contact to the floor pan is best].

That is not what I mean. I'm going to ground it to the spare tire spot(the usuall spot). It should come out close to 20ft needed for all the wire, from what I've gathered from several people.
I do have one question though. Should the fuse I get be based on the max amps supported by 4ga wire? Or should it be based on the max energy needed from the engine bay? Which is the better case? That's really what I need to know. I've heard 60amp will work fine, 100 amp will work fine, 150 amps will work fine, and also to go with the highest amperage possible for that gauge wire. I'm no expert, but the whole idea is to protect it from shorting out on something grounded, in which case it'll blow on all of them, right?

You could use a fuse that is max used for power needed, but your fuse box has those fuses the fuse(s) you install on the extension lead between batt, and engine bay, 4ga is to protect the 4ga cable and should be the max the cable will handle, in this case it's a 4ga so a 150A fuse should be used.
