car won't start for long time after running out of gas
I have a 99 Civic EX Coupe stock everything. I ran out of gas about a week ago and after going to get gas and putting some in the car it wouldnt start. I waited an hour then went back to start it again no luck. So I let the car sit for about a day or so then I go to start it and it starts right up. A week later I ran out of gas again and now the car wont start again even after putting more gas in. It has been almost a full day and the car still wont start. I thought it might be the ignition coil and the running out of gas thing was just a coincidence so i replaced the coil. Still wont start I dont get it could it be the fuel pressure regulator or what Im stumped. Please help just got my license back trying to get the POS to the inspection station. It has to be something with the fuel cause this has happened only when I run out of gas.
well, you should have learned not to run out of gas!
Everytime you let your car run "on fumes" it works towards ruining your fuel pump because there is nothing to keep it cool
So check to see if your fuel pump is still working...

i know im not trying to but the car has no tags ive been trying to get it to the inspection station so i can get tags and fill her up but the **** is breaking down how do i check the fuel pump turn the power on and listen for it to turn on?
is fuel even coming?
if the car runs out of gas you have to crank longer becuase there is no fuel in the lines.
turn the key to the on position and see if the fuel pump turns on

yeah im at work and the car is here in the parking lot i am going to go out and check for spark shortly
GOT SPARK!!!! i got spark and im pretty sure I hear the fuel pump cut on....whats should i check next??
my fuel pump was pumping but not at high enough pressure to open the injectors, replaced the pump and it started right up. Take the line off at the fuel filter, if the pump is working it should spray out when you try to start it. If it just pours/trickles then its working but not building enough pressure, which means you need to replace the pump. You may want to get a friend to help you with checking.
shes running again.......removed fuel line from fuel filter it was getting fuel put the line back on and started it up weird but hey its running and ill never let it run out of gas again! Thanks all
