Default Anyone in the Norther VA area who can help me???

Can anyone help me this weekend possibly???

Hey everyone, I just moved to Northern VA... the Triangle area actually, but before I left NC, I was having a lot of issues with my 88 CRX. It was originally a DX... I had the MPFI conversion done (but I think it got screwed up) cause it was downhill from there... at first I thought it was the D15 motor... so I pulled that out and put in a good condition D16A6 motor, and Si Tranny, new flywheel, dizzy, and such. The motor was professionally installed by a performance shop in NC who does great work. But I am still having some fuel issues. The mechanic checked everything over numberous times, messed with the timing forever... and nothing seems to make sense. He said it probably had to do with the MPFI conversion being messed up (it looks like crap wire wise in my engine bay). Well I had to move before I could get him to do it. Now I have the car, which runs, but backfires some, bogs out at low RPM's and smokes alittle bit... I want to get this taken care of before it causes anymore damage as this is my daily driver.

Is there anyone out there who has thorough knowledge of SOHC EF's that could help me redo this wiring. I can't afford right now to pay a performance shop to do it as I have just started work again and the move killed my funds. I may be able to come up with some monitary compensation or something.

Anyone who can help or thinks they could give me a hand in doing this please PM me or email me at stuffforme06@yahoo.com. thanks.

Well here is the nightmare for me... this is inside footwell at ECU:

These two were cut, The original orange and the white wires were connected to their spots.

Yes thats speaker wire...

These wires... just hanging around

Engine Bay

Dizzy Connection

Confirmed.... yes it is speaker wire...

Theres not much to say about this... Drivers side near injector resistor

Couple extra wires hanging around... and yes the body harness was hacked up...

Wish I could help but I am very wet behind the ears when it comes to crx's. I picked up my first rex a few months back and luckily, it's already got the MPFI wiring due to it being an HF. Good luck and if you do find someone to work on it, let me know, I'd like to come by and learn a few things.

I will definately give you a heads up... the more the merrier... I am contimplating boosting the D16A6, but I need to get this thing running right first!! and the guy who did my conversion did a pretty bad hack job on it.

Before you rewire your car... rent a compression test tool

You'll just slide it into the spark plug holes with the spark plug out.

Read up on MPFI swap... Google search it. Its not a very hard swap once you read through and understand it. Its only a small amount of wiring. But that might not be your problem?.

And do you know if your ECU is throwing codes?... it most likely would be if the wiring is wrong. Not sure how much you know aabout your car,(no offense) but its underneath the passangers side rug, under a face plate with 4 12mm bolts.(or maybe 10mm)anyway.. Take that off. Start the car and check to see if it blinks. Count the number of blinks. It will pause and blink again possibly showing another code after that. Whatever code it tells you, corresponds to the problem.

I was getting a code #9 for the #3 cylinder, but when I replaced the dizzy that went away. I had the compression checked while it was being worked on, I foget what the numbers were, but he said the compression was fine. The problem is, the guy who did my MPFI wiring did such a hack job that he actually cut some of the body harness wires, I have spare wires just hanging around, he used speaker wire and ran it straight to the dizzy and spliced it right there... i will try to take some pics and post for you to see what I mean. But everyone who has seen and driven the car thinks that it is a problem in the wiring.

I have read about 6 articles about the MPFI swap... I am just not good with doing wiring in the engine.... I am trying to learn motor swaps too, but I havent gotten that far yet. I can do a lot of things, just motor stuff is not my cup of tea. I would love to just dig in and learn... but My other car is in VA Beach getting tuned so if something happens to this one... Im kinda screwed.

thanks, I had already looked into him, but That would mean that I would have to buy 2 new harnesses and then pay to have them made and that would add up real quick. I found a DX harness pretty cheap.. I was hoping ot have someone help me remove the current one, rewire the new DX harness and hopefully help me fix up some of my body harness. I have this awkward feeling that the car is slowly being destroyed.

I've only done some minor wiring things, but i understand the MPFI swap and I'm also getting my degree in electrical engineering. Looks like where you live (triangle, VA) is about an hour and a half away from where I live. Depending on what I'm doing this weekend I can try to find a way to help, but I can't promise anything. If you've got a virgin DX harness and need help trying to figure out how to convert it to MPFI, I can help you there.

Well I have looked over my car a couple times... and it seems like I can match up and repair everything that was cut in the body harness... I have a virgin DX harness, so when I disconnect the current engine harness, I will have all the connectors needed for the swap, injector clips and everything, the injector box with all the needed wiring, and it will be like doing the conversion from ground zero. Now I have an entire D16A6 motor in there... don't know if that makes a difference or not. But I have like every guide available... Im gonna basically take out the current engine harness... repair the body harness to stock and start from scratch... I just an not real technically inclined to take out the harness and such seeing how I have never done it before... I would just like someone who has a good idea of this car to give me a hand if possible. Definately thanks for offering to try to help. I appreciate it whether you end up being able to or not.
