That did not look like an AWD car. It looks like a rwd Skyline.

Some of the skyline were AWD. they have a button that can switch the car from RWD to AWD kinda like having 4 wheel drive on a truck.

I remember years ago at E-town. the guys from Japan bought one over for the race and it had the same features. so thats what i'm guess this skiyline has as well.

it must be nice to have the option to heta up the back tires and then have the luxury to have the AWD at the flip of the switch.

And even if this is not AWD....it is definitly the fastest somethig. 7.59 on a small tire car is definilty hauling ***.

It is fast, no doubt about that.

It's cool either way, to see it run those times.

Some of you know nothing about the skyline it uses a hydraulically controlled center differential and its really 4wd not awd.

The the Transmission ECU is tunable and it can be a selectable RWD only before they used a master cylinder and pressurized the clutch packs disabled the hyrdo pump and did a rwd burnout

Now you can buy an ECU and replace the OEM transnmission ECU.

I dont think J. shepeard can match that in a Talon since he cannot warm up his rear tires.

Here's a schematic from my Service manual.

Maybe a dumb question, but what's the difference in AWD and 4WD?

Awd is a car that drives 4 wheels ALL THE TIME , full time 4wd you can also call it.

4wd ( some ppl also call these cars w/ no center differential w/ selectable t-case) Well its a drivetrain that cant or doesnt drive 4 wheels all the time. The skyline actively switches between 4wd/rwd the system works so damn good the banned the GTR from touring car because the teams tuned the drivetrains ecu.

The ecu I have can do this :

In drag mode it operates as follows:
Channel 1: constant 4WD
Channel 2: constant 4WD, lower percentage front torque
Channel 3: constant 4WD until 180km/h, then gradual release to RWD
Channel 4: constant 4WD until 140km/h, then gradual release to RWD

In circuit mode it operates as follows:
Channel 1: rapid transition to 4WD under acceleration, RWD only above 160km/h
Channel 2: gradual transition to 4WD under acceleration, RWD only above 160km/h
Channel 3: gradual transition to 4WD under acceleration, RWD only above 120km/h
Channel 4: RWD only

When it comes to launching a Skyline, since it is 4wd and not awd-- all the power goes to the rear wheels, so you'll see a little bit of smoke before the electronics kick in, sense the spin, and then engage the 2 fronts.

A full time 4wd car will smoke it's tires up in a launch they have LSD in there center diff to transfer there power to the front if there rears slip . The GTR's is just electronic and ideal the system isnt slow reactinge thier. It gets as much as 50% to the front wheels upon launch..

hmm...my friends R32 GTR sure did launch in RWD only............. you can come around a slow corner, stomp it...and as soon as boost goes on it'll toss the rear end out and not spin the fronts at all.
