Default question on governor

how come the auto has a governor but the manual doesn't? Is there a reason behind that.. like can the auto not spin fast enough? Or is there another reason behind it. Because i was thinking about reprograming my ECU but i have an auto and i don't want to harm it.

Its not that its automatic, its because you have an LX. I believe those top out around 115mph on 5th gen Accord.

It's a governor, speed limiting (maybe that's the right term? haha) Once you hit 115, it'll shoot you back down to about 100 or so and tell you "No, No" and because it's not safe to go on roads that fast in a car like that. People shouldn't be going over 100

yeah i know it does that, but i was just wondering why it does that in the auto and not the manual. I thought maybe the auto wasn't able to go faster than that, because i was thinking of building my car, but keeping the auto for now. But it'd want to remove the governor if the auto can go faster, not for the road but for the track.. and if i do remove it will the auto be able to handle it for a long time, and should i put an auto tranny cooler on it?

I have a little older accord (manual), but the governor is set right at 115, but actually at speed looks like 117. You can get it removed if you really want to if you get hondata. But other then that there are really no options, ive been looking around for quite some time now on the subject.

DX, LX and SE, automatic and 5spd accords (from 1994 to 1997) will have governor cutting off fuel at 117mph to more exact. The next generation accord I believe can have a little more time before governor kicks in.

So will a 5th gen EX not have a governor? I have gotten mine up to 135mph.

What track are you thinking that you will be getting up to that speed on with your car?

not if you just swap them, because the "head" of the engines are different, one is vtec and the other one not.

The 94-97 accord EX, with its original engine, transmission (all stock gears, ratios and specs) and original ECU (not morified) will reach a respectable top speed of 157.7 miles per hour. At that point, engine should be redlining at 6200rpms and your biggest challenge would actually be cutting through the wind, since the aerodynamics of the vehicle weren't specifically made to allow wind cutting at that speed range. I've personally pushed mine to 145mph and it was still going, slowly gaining speed, but sure was getting faster. Wasn't able to put the 157mph because of trucks on highway.

your V6 stops at 125 because IT LACKS THE TORQUE to go any faster. There is a work a round though. Hold the car in 3rd gear until the torque coverter locks up and then shift it into 4th gear and you will get past 125MPH to about 140 or so...

Acura CL type S has fuel cut off at 149mph....so who really knows what the drag limited top speed is?
