Default I now have a bike. For real this time.=)

Today I took advantage of the 0 down, 0 intrest, 0 payments untill Jan 03 and got me and Melanie, mostly for Melanie, a 02 Yellow Ninja Ex 250. We will not drive it untill we take the safety course later this month.
I had to visit 3 different dearlerships before one finally gave me a price I wanted. I also picked up a Shoei Rf-900, gloves and a jacket. I cant wait to ride it.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you end up paying? I've seen the MSRP and used prices, so I'm interested in a realistic dealer price. Also how much is insurance costing you, and what kind of coverage do you have? TIA.

MSRP is $2,999 and I payed $3,400 out the door. The 1st 2 dealerships gave me $3600 out the door and the final dealership I went to I told them I wanted to pay $3400 out the door and they agreed.
Full coverage insurance was $400/ year for full coverage under my name and with Melanie as a driver. Im 26 with no tickets or accidents and it will go down as soon as I get the drivers safety course.

not bad.

i paid 5400 O.T.D for my bike, with the MSRP at $5999 for a 750. but thats cause my bike is sooo unpopular. cant figure out why! i love it! its pretty popular in australia and parts of europe.

Congrats on the bike! Its a fun little machine. You are supposed to keep it below 4000rpm for the first 500 miles, but thats not possible on the streets. Its easy to tell when to shift to keep the RPMs low - just keep on the gas until it starts to pull harder (4500- 5000 or so) then shift.

45mph in 6th gear is about 5500 rpm! Good thing it revs to 14,000!!!

i checked the speedometer against one of the unmanned police radar things. Speedo indicated 46mph and radar sign said 41. Typical for a bike.

Have fun and be safe!

Joe

The worst thing possible happend. falcon, on our way home the bike fell off the trailer. Right off of 161 and 183. I noticed it was kinda leaning so I pulled over and it came off at a low speed and fell into the grass by the shoulder. It went nose first and the damage is both mirrors are scratched, windsheild scratched, and a very small one on the right fairing.
what I had to do was very cool. since it was on the side and in the grass I couldnt load up the bike up the trailer. So what I did was I drove it across the access road to an empty hotel parking lot. YES I DROVE IT!!! I dont know how I did it but I did it to get it across. Poor melanie was heart broken .

I loaded it back up and made sure everything was tight. I dont know what happend since we both made sure it was tight. I drove 40 all the way home and go to work 2hrs late.

The bike looks ok and I know we can fix it. man, what a day...

Did you use a harness? Get one if not. I can also post a few pointers for trailering if needed.

yes we did. canyondancer.

we hooked the tiedowns to the rails on the side of the trailer. i think the hooks could have slid as they sped up and slowed down. bike was in 1st gear, so it shouldnt have slid around. hmmph.

MAN What kind of straps did you guys use? The cheaper ones will come loose. I usually drive a few blocks and stop to check mine before I go all out. I also tie the loose ends back to the catch on the release as a saftey.

Sounds like the damage was minimal and can be replaced without too much expense. Especially if you do some upgrading to a LP wind screen and rear views

Oh and another thing, if the scratches are light enough, you can polish them out. I have some compound DESIGNED to buff out plastic windscreens. If you run a fingernail across the scratches, does it hang on them? If so it will need replacing.
