My 97 prelude grinds as it is shifted into 5th gear. If i double clutch it and do it slower then usual it is fine.. any help?

 

a lot of 5th gens have this problem, use the search cuz its been covered a bunch of times.

 

ive seen a lot of transmissions do this. Most of the time its because of the synchronizers inside the transmission on the 5th and revers plentum, being out of adjustment, or just weak. The only advice i could give is to have it rebuilt soon befor it gets too bad.

 

you can try using syncromesh sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. it didnt really help mine unfortunately. honda has tsb for the 5th gear synchros

 

search for the TSB about the bent/defective 5th gear fork. Honda knows about it...

 

I thot the syncros stopped after 3rd gear.
And btw - my forth gen sometimes has the
same problems with 5th grinding except when
i double clutch or change in sloww

 

I'm pretty sure 4th and 5th have synchros too, or else u'd have to rev match.
