Recommend me a new leather suit.
Although the riding season is almost over I would still like to purchase a new suit. I've got a couple now; MX1 and stage 1 but I'm looking for something other than *star.
So if you have any experience with any other leather let me know. Also I'm only looking for 1-piece. BTW price range is anywhere from 1k to 2k.
TIA.

I'll add Z.Custom to that as well. No sense in buying off the shelf when custom made (all the brands listed) is in the price range.

I am going to go against OLD wisdom (j/k Schu) and suggest RS Taichi. Have you ever heard of butter-soft (to the touch) leather? That aptly describes Taichi gear. I slipped on a set of gloves from them, and they were just about the best fitting gloves I had ever felt.
If you have a MX1 and Stage 1, and they fit, why do you want to switch manufacturers? Remember, the most important aspect of gear is that it fits YOU well.

while on the topic of a new 1 piece suit, has anyone here bought an *star and had it tailored to their body? I've got slightly longer arms/torso than legs so an off the shelf *star is 2+ inches long in the legs. What would a typical tailoring job cost using the proper thread/stitching?

I was going to suggest something like them but for a track novice who is going to do a lot of crashing I don't want butter soft. I want strong. Vanson is thick leather with big hard armor. My brother is up too crash number 5(I think?
) on his Vanson and it's only required some minor repairs where some of the stretch inserts got torn. While they aren't highsides none of the crashes were very slow and one had him on pavement all the way down from 120 to a stop.
Check out http://www.vanson.com and either look for a local dealer or talk to them directly.
Helimot is also very good. It's a bit more expensive but also very tough stuff and a bit better then Vanson. I want a pair of the daytonas...Saved a friends leg who had to be cut out of her swingarm

That is true - buying custom allows the custom-maker to make the proper repairs on your suit, and usually for a lot less. But it depends on the severity of your repairs, too. FWIW, my suit cost $1650 (lettering mostly), and was almost $300 to repair after a big crash.
evil vapor - the cost depends on who is doing it. Shortening legs is not too bad - usually around $150-300.

I've had my Nankai suit repaired at Bate's Custom in Signal Hill. They said the Nankai construction is similar to their suits so they'll work on them. They won't fix Dainese or Alpinestars suits because of the construction - they can't make it safe again.
FWIW, I had my heavily damaged Nankai suit cost $150 for a "safety" repair job. If I wanted them to make it pretty again, it would have cost more. Not bad IMHO.

Take it to Z's Custom Leather. They can work on Dainese and I'm pretty sure they can work on A* stuff too. I heard about the difficulty on some Dainese panels because of the Kevlar layer.

I have the same problem, I am 5'11"/6' but I have a 28" inseam and a 28" waist so nothing that comes in a set fits right
but its not to the point where I "have" to get it tailored but it doesnt fit like it should.

What they get and what we get is from a different world. Even the AMA stuff is completely different.

Haha no kidding. If I was butt serious about the track, I would go with a custom fit. Or order one from Japan since my Japanese body ain't made like ya'll white folk.
My Komodo fits me fine, though. Budget suits, yay.
