Default 06 Si Exhaust opinions

I'm thinking about getting a Catback exhaust for the Si but don't want something that is crazy loud. I commute about 50 miles with the car and want the best performance without drawing too much attention to myself on the city streets. Anybody have a catback (DC, Greddy, Apexi, Tanabe) on the new Si and what do you think of it?

On a slightly different note... When the hell are they gonna come out with a carbon fiber lip spoiler? I'm dying for one!

Same here fellow NY'er.

I've been researching cat-backs since my Si came home from the dealership in July. Like you, I drive my Si to work every day (80 miles r/t). Over the years I've had the good, the bad and the ugly exhaust system on my cars. More recently, I had a single outlet EVO on my V6 Accord that sounded great, but the size of the tip was just too much for me. I have a sweet sounding set-up on my 4.7L HO Jeep (3" from the y-pipe on back, Carsound hi-flow cat, 70 Series Flowmaster), but out on the open road it resonates in the cabin......that's why they refer to Flowmaster as "Dronemaster" The Jeep is the "family" car , and the wife and kids don't even notice it now, but I sure hear it when I drive it on the weekends (but I sure as heck don't say anything

I think that I'm going to go with the Tanabe Medallion Touring ($565). I was also thinking about the Magnaflow, as a number of folks have had good things to say about it.......and it's $200 less than the Tanabe, but I don't know about going with Magnaflow on an import?? When I think of Magnaflow, I just think of mufflers for domestic V8's.......I have dual Magnaflow mufflers on my P71 Crown Vic and they sound great.

When it comes to my Si, I'm looking for a nice deep sound, and as close to stock down low in the RPM range.

That being said, my ears are pretty much shot at this stage from owning sportbikes for the last 20 years........I don't have one in my garage at the moment, I sold my '98 CBR900RR in late June when I got the Si. With two young kids, I was just not getting out on it that much and I'm looking into buying a quad (plus, the wife only allows me to have so may "toys" at one time and I had a guy at work that gave me top $ for my CBR)

The Neuspeed exhaust is excellent. Not loud at cruising after it breaks in, and quite nice at WOT. I have it on my car along with a Hondata Reflash, Hondata Heatshield Gaskset, AEM CAI, Comptech Short Shifter, and S2000 Titanium ****. That **** btw is a way better fit than the Skunk2.

The car runs great and the Neuspeed supports the other mods well.

comptech doesnt have one for the Si? You cant fit a Mugen from the JDM civic?

I had a mugen twin loop on my 99 SI...it was the only exhaust i ever had that i thought sounded perfect.

Check out showstoppersusa.com. There is a carbon spoiler out. Is that what you are looking for?

I haven't added exhaust either, but I think I like to sound level of Tanabe. It really isn't that much louder than stock.

I realize this is off topic and I apologize in advance, but I have the same mods as you with the exception of the Exhaust and reflash. I went with the GReddy EVO II exhaust. Btw, I love the way the EVO II sounds. Nice deep rumble on normal driving, not much louder than stock. When the Vtec kicks in, it is definitely much louder and still much deeper than other exhaust I have heard.

I have been struggling with whether or not to do the reflash. Based on the comments from Hondata, I was under the impression that you really don't get the gains from the reflash without the header. How do you like the reflash without the header? Do you notice any dip in performance in the mid-range area? I was concerned that, with the engine switching to the upper cams at 4500, the engine might run too rich without the header? What do you think?

Thanks for the feedback.

The reflash without the header is fine and worth it if you want to be emissions legal. You can always get a shorty aftermarket header later if you want to keep the cat and get a few hp. The engine does not run too rich at 4500 without a header. The mass air flow sensor accounts for any air flow changes as a result of either the intake or header, and ensures that it runs at the same rich or leaness as stock. Keep in mind of in the past, before Honda's came with mass air flow sensors, a race header would run too lean on a stock tune.

Almost all the gain is midrange, with the exception of the higher redline. Before the reflash, the engine was very peaky and the mods didn't help that.

I will say this though, with or without the Hondata ECU, the AEM CAI does confuse the mass air flow sensor sometimes due to air turbulence and results in slight hesitation at 3-4k rpms, and like most CAI, can cause a misfire to be detected by the ECU (though this is fairly rare). Overall though, the AEM Intake is well designed and worth the money imho.

Back on topic once again... Neuspeed makes parts for VW/Audi and Honda/Acura; they are very well regarded in the VW Community. Their exhaust for the 06 Si is supposed to make 6-10 HP, and I believe those claims based on my experience with it.
