Default Painting my new hatch

So the rear vertical glass on my old hatch broke I figured the hatch leaked and had dents in it anyway so I would just buy a new one. I found one for 40 bucks and got it the other day. My car is black and this hatch is poorly primered on the outside and Turquios on the inside. I'm gonna paint it all. I have a question on painting it though. My first step will be sanding right? If so should I just go out and buy the finest sand paper?

first step should be removing window trim, wiper, insulation, etc...you should cover the glass with plastic and make sure the perimeter of the glass is sealed with tape. Do a good job covering up the parts you didn't remove.

i'd get a sanding block and wetsand the exterior with 400 until you see Turquios paint. clean hatch with wax/grease remover and double tack cloth the surface. if there's chips/deep scratches use a hi-build primer. if the surface is ready just primer it. wetsand the interior/exterior with 600. clean hatch with wax/grease remover and double tack cloth the surface. spray your color coat. depending on orangepeel you'll need to knock it down with 800-1200 grit. Once orangepeel is leveled you can get a mirrorlike finish by wetsanding with 1500-2000 and buffing/polishing afterwards.

if you're adding clearcoat lmk and i'll edit this post.
