I was thinking of swaping a h23 with a h22 lsd 5spd into my 1995 honda civic. I was just wondering if that would be a good idea or if that would be hard. I really want to put a turbo on it but some people were telling me that it would need to be resleeved and would be alot of money. So I dont know if that is a good idea or what other motors would be better. I found the motor with 25k from japan for $2,190 and the transmission for $999. Is that too much or is that a good price.

From many of the posts I've read about swapping the H22's into Civics is that it is definitely more difficult. It's really just more about finding which hybrid parts you need to get the motor in. Another negative that I have heard is the fact that the motor sits at a different angle than Civic motors and that it puts extra strain on the axles.

The motors do make good power though. I am sure that it would be a fun swap.

there is a FAQ sticky that has alot of info on what you are asking, check it out. And just so you know, the H22 was the VTEC (notice the spelling, dont mess it up anymore) motor, and the H23 was the non-VTEC.

The H-series trannies are said to be a weak spot, but there is the H2B kit that allows you to use a B-series tranny.

I would def consider building your block to boost it, i am sure it can hold boost without it, but wouldnt you rather do it right the first time, and not have to worry about it?

 

i dont kno now im confused because the motor i was looking said that it was a h23a-vtech. It said it came out of a prelude. then u said that all h23 were non vtech. i was told to by a few people to buy the h22 LSD transmission they said they were really strong. I would love to boost the car something i always wanted to do but how much do u think it would cost me to make it boost ready so i can do it right the first time cuz it sucks going back because u didnt do something right.

The H-series trannies are not well designed, and are not one of hondas best trannies, but they still work. H22a was the VTEC engine, it came out of the VTEC Preludes. H23a came out of non-VTEC preludes. The H22a LSD tranny is probably the best H series tranny, and it came on the higher model VTEC engine.

I couldnt tell you how much it would cost to build the block for boost, it depends on how much boost you plan on running, and a stock block can hold low to mild boost, BUT YOU MUST TUNE IT CORRECTLY! It is all in the tune.

damn it, i just did it for you, lol. For a built block, completely rebuilt, new parts, sleeved, blah blah blah, your looking at $3000. I am sure you could get it cheaper somewhere, but that gives you a ballpark number. Its expensive.

$3000 is a joke i spent less on my whole longblock built. including pnp head. just search for the deals man.

Good point. I'm not a big fan of the H series trannies as well. If I were you I'd invest in a H-B series adapter plate and use a B tranny. GSR would be nice for a H22 in my personal opinion as a daily driver, but if you're dragging it go with a B16...and if you're concerned about highway H22+H-Badapter+B16tranny+LS Final Drive = drag ownage + mpg ownage

If you do a lot of highway driving might wanna look into the LS as a whole tranny. If you don't beat the **** outta your car you might wanna look into the LS as a whole tranny....etc. Not a bad tranny, just not exactly what I'd want to make power with. Though I'd definately use a B series tranny. Like I said, GSR would be what I go with, though when I do my H22 swap (god knows when that'll be) I'm still contimplating between that (GSR tranny) or B16 w/ LS final drive.

 

hey i was just wondering where u got yours done at. what kind of motor and what done to it at the machine shop.

 

i someone just told me that they make h23 in "VTEC" they only put them in accords in japan so any h23 "vtec" is imported. does that sound right anyone.

 

h22 with h2b and type R lsd tranny. it's a very good combo.

first if you gunna swap into a civic buy the right mounts ex: hasport hcp and buy or make hybrid axles they are easy to get just search even ebay sells them or companys like gator or driveshaftshop and your major axle issues are solved now a h23 vtec motor stock non frankenstein is an accord motor i have one for sale alot cheaper then what your gunna pay pm me and i will talk prices with you

 

There is nothing wrong with the H series trans its the cables that suck. Ther are many people out there that run the stock h22 trans on high hp and have no problems. If your going to turbo then dont go with the h23 vtec cause its higher compresion on that motor I think like 11:1. I would say fisrt go with the swap and see if that what you want cause its a hoel nother balpark then having a b series motor.
