ok guys here the story, my buddy prelude keep on overheating. We change the tempostat, radiator, all hoses, cap, and temperature sensor, and the car is still overheating. Right when you start it up and about 10 to 15 minutes later it over heat..temp gauge red line....the radiator is a koyo daul core aluminum.....need HELP fast...thanks

 

You have to bleed the air out.

 

yeah we did

 

also make sure your fans are working properly. i had overheating issues whenever i was at idle with A/C on.

turns out the bearing on my a/c fan is busted so the thing just spins but doesn't make the fan spin

 

we switch the fan to a manual switch and it still over heat with out the a/c on

 

If you've done all of that, you may want to try using a additive to the coolant like royal purple ice, or some crap like that.

 

i think my buddy did but i have asked him, is there any possible way to test the ditigal gauge in the car??

 

that isn't going to help. its merely masking the problem.

get out a pyrometer and measure to make sure that it is actually overheating.....

you probably arent bleeding the coolant the right way.....

 

wow the right way, there is only one way...throught the blew screw on the temposatic housing

 

I've read about this problem on other lude sites. The problem is actually poor grounding. It just makes your temp gauge to crazy. One guy had poor grounding from the engine mount to the valve cover. A Second guy had poor ground around the battery terminals to the chassis, poor guy spent lots of money for two months changing everything else until he found the bad ground.

It might sound silly to you, but there's no harm is checking out the grounds, before you start changing water pumps and stuff.

if he put in too much additive it may have clogged something up...which could make the coolant not get to the radiator fast enough, or at all. those additives are no good...

 

could possibly be your temp sensor also..

yea additives really suck... i know someone who put leak stopper additive on their car in attempt to repair a pin hole leak in the radiator and they ended up clogging the coolant system. Ended up costing so much more in the long run. I basically try to avoid additives at all cost.

Silly Advanced Auto guys always try to push that crap on me too

honda radiator fluid has additive's in it. I suggest using OEM on all fluids except oil..

 

with the koyo there should be no overheating unless you have blockage somewhere or an electrical problem like they said

my fan rarely ever comes on with my koyo.....it's very efficient

thats not the only place you need to bleed homes....pop the radiator cap off and bleed the upper and lower radiator hoses....

dont get smart with me either, you're talking to the guy whose car DOES'NT overheat, if I was you I'd be more receptive to advice

aint that the truth. i just put my koyo in today and waited like 30 minutes for the fan to kick on

 

water pump?

and the temp sensor is not grounded
hook it up to an ohm meter and check the readings

the helms says the temp. related to the ohm reading

 

humor me and check all the groundings... even the grounds that are far off from the temp sensor and seems irrelevant

I have no doubt there is alot for me to learn. That's why i'm here. But you can't ignore the fact that poor grounding can cause electronic gauges and sensors to go wacky. And the fact that is has help at lease two others from what i've read. What's the harm of just checking it. If charlie_sohc just report that he already check the grounding and it wasn't the problem, then i'll let it be. Short of replacing water pump, it looks like he already change alot of components to no avail
