Default what clutch/flywheel to get?

doing a h22 swap into my buddies 4th gen and need to know what kind of clutch to get, since the motor is already out.

its going to make around 200whp at most for awhile, going to be a daily driver, tracked, fun runs on the street and of that nature. so with that power and driving style, which would be good?possiably nitrous in the furture.

what are your reconmendations on which clutch/flywheel combo to get? thanks

there are a ton of threads on the subject, some say it is a little more tricky to drive, others say its no big deal. Some say that they can bust/break, but from what I have seen that is only when used on excessive high powed cars and stage 2/3 clutches.

You could also go stage one clutch if you have the extra cash.

Mine has an ACT flywheel, and i'm guessing an ACT clutch too? it's kind of a bitch to drive, revs quick and the clutch lets out really quick as well, i guess you just have to get used to it.

I'm getting an act organic street disc and pressure plate put in today, along with a 8 lb fidanza flywheel. I'll let you know how I like it.

BTW, do a search for exedy and you'll find that the marcel srings tend to break appart from the disc if you do anything but tame street driving.

I am on my 3rd excedy OEM and I have never had any problems. I have been to the track a couple times, and done a little goofing on the streets now and again and never had a problem myself.

well i have a clutchmasters stage 3 clutch with a clutchmaster 8 lb flywheel and well it works really good, revs fasts , grabs hard when i want it to. i recently tore apart my motor due to a rod knocking and when i checked my clutch all the stamps/ letters that were on the disk when i installed them are still there and the clutch is in very good condition after 20k miles of alot of abuse due to hard racing at least 2 people a day. in the end i guess it really depends on what your friend wants to do with the car. if it is just a regular daily driver without abuse then stay with stock. if he is gonna race it put aftermarket/ name brand stuff. it also depends on his power goals too.

unless youre going turbo or insane NA, a stage 1 clutch will be fine....i make a tad over 200whp and my 30k old cm stage 1 has been perfect so far......

yeah oem would do fine but stage 1 would be better if you want that extra grabbing power for better launches i guess

don't just look at the "stages" because every company is different and ones my be a 1 and the others which are the same will be a stage 3. Look at the disc design and pressure plate construction to get a better idea.

Its all about the grabbing force. Thats the real tell tale of its strength. And CHEAP companies OVER rate the clutches, well known brand name clutches wil usually slightly underrate there clutches.

I got a 9.68 Forged Steel Flywheel from Prostreetonline. It works great for me on a daily driven car. Some people have driveability problems with lightweight flywheels, can't say that I do. One thing I notice is that my idle is a little bit more sensitive when strain is put on the motor in neutral (braking, head lights, etc...). I don't stall; I just get a small and quick RPM dip followed by a spike, then it stabilizes again at normal idle.

Clutch wise, I got a ACT OEM replacement with something like 25 or 70% more grabbing force than OEM I think. Other people say its a little harder for them, but they are coming from newer cars (2006 TL, RSX Type S, etc...). I personally like it more than other cars, especially my friends BMW 3 series which has no pressure at all! Again, no problems with it as a daily driver.

I did all this with a Master Clutch cyclinder replacement (old one was leaking out of the piston). So that may have a factor in what I felt as well.

I just got my ACT heavy duty clutch kit installed this week and its great! I got that and an 8lb fidanza flywheel and can rev match like a **** now. Its so much more responsive to throttle inputs its insane, I wish they made a 4lb one
