Default Considering Purchasing a 1991 CRX as a Project Car

Hey folks...I've been on around the Honda scene for sometime, but am new to this board.
For sometime, I've played with the idea of buying a project car to work on during the weekends. Some of my choices have been a 200SX, 5th Generation Civic, circa~'93 Integra GS-R, and a newer CRX.

First thing I'd do is do a swap, and the B16C seems like a great candidate, or even the ZC engine. There's no real question here, but I'm sort of overwhelmed as to where to begin, what you'd suggest, and any tips.

I have yet to locate a CRX to buy, but will likely begin looking seriously come this Summer. Thanks for any advice guys!

Go for it, CRXs are real great cars that are hell of fun to drive. If u want speed go for 88 HF, if your more into looks 88 Si. Just remember the 88s r the lightest CRXs so if u want speed thats the way to go. Good luck

If I haven't found a car by then, I'll give you a ring. I wouldn't be too committed to speed...a slow car can be a fun car if it handles well. That said, any car weighing less than 2500 pounds with ~170HP will move like a bat out of hell, so a stripped interior and other weight-saving procedures aren't on my to-do list. Nonethess, thanks for all your help!

EDIT: What are the odds of finding a rust-free CRX? I know older Honda's are prone to rust problems (my 1993 Vigor was plagued by that problem...oddly enough, she was waxed on a monthly basis with this problem in the back of my head, and it STILL rusted). I could always replace panels, etc...but are the newer ones (with the exclusion of the car being younger) less prone to rust; ie better paint?

Here's what I'd do:

'85-'87 Si
sticky tires
poly bushings
'86-'89 teg brakes
thicker front torsion bars
rear lowering springs
adjustable shocks
big rear swaybar
front camber plates
adjustable panhard bar
'86-'89 teg motor & tranny
small/medium turbo (somethin like a T3 .48 Stage-II Super-60)
beefy clutch
quaife diff

Whole thing should weigh in around 2100 lbs tops.

P.S. There's no such thing as a B16C.

howdy...long time no talk

200sx is actually a heavy platform to work on for a fwd...a crx would be a good candidate

advice...since this is your 1st swap...i'd look into getting a zc (either sohc or dohc) or building up a d16a6 stock crx si engine...this at a better pace gets you into hybrid arena at a much lower costs...a b16a will cost you at least $2,500 if you do it right...plus with a d series you can build a turbo for either for less than $1k...a crx is a great project car and can move quick with a tuned d series with most bolt ons

jaje

ps...what happened to that one site?

Finding a rust free CRX isn't hard, it's just a matter of right time right place, depending on where you live, pretty much, I live in the Midwest and mine had a ****-ton of rust, if the doors have a lot of rust(which mine does) just get new doors, the only other place that a lot of rust shows up is right behind the wheel wells, someone posted a thread not to long ago on how to fix and prevent that from happening again...hope this helps and good luck!!
