Default main relay question...

ok, story first, then question(s).
i swapped a dohc zc in my buddies crx si the other day, (easy swap, nice power) and he loves it. he calls me yesterday and says, "hey man, i just did something stupid. i started my car and pulled the battery out, the 2 battery cables touched and my car shut off. its not cranking over anymore, can you help me fix it?"
i go over there and his starter solenoid isnt working, i tried hitting it while he turned the key, nothing. so i run home real quick to grab my starter off of my old motor and put it in, it cranks but doesnt turn over. i was in a hurry to leave for the route 66 car show so i couldnt stay to help anymore, im going over tomorrow to see if the fuel pump primes.
question time. if it is the main relay, are they interchangeable with other main relays? i.e. if i were to get one from an 89 dx hatch, would it work in his 88 crx si?

thanks in advanced

ok, well i went over there today to look at his car, and all the fuses are fine. i looked at everything and i couldnt see anything wrong, so i told him to try and start it. the car tries to start, but it cranks really slow. the ecu is fine. when i turn the key, it flashes, showing that its on, then it goes blank. i can hear the fuel pump prime, and i know its getting fuel. the only thing i can think of now, is the dizzy. is it possible that it could have gone bad when the wires touched?

thanks in advance

As for they main relay, they are diffrent in diffrent model, mostly look same,
if the one you have had same number pattren with the other, u can use it,

the legs on the mainrelay have number on it,
1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

or
1 3 5 7
2 4 6 8 .

look for the similarity
