Default d16z6 question

this kid in my town has a d16z6 and i'm pretty interested because i'd like to stick it in my ef sedan... anyway its a small town so through word of mouth i hear that the engine has some problems, namely they couldn't get it to hold a good idle, and there could be others. the kid wants 300 for the whole motor... i'd obviously go look at it but what should i look for? its out of the car so i could really get a good look at it. any help is appreciated!
Tony

300 for just the motor? and it has problems? Price seems high, How many miles are on the engine?

Take some tools maybe and take offf the valve cover look around. Look for oil leaks around, turn it on, smell around once its on, look for smoke, Check cels, etc..

Edit:

I just read its out of the car, so nvm what i said haha.

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a running Z6.

go buy a zc or d15b, they hopefully arn't as abused, and are compression checked, somewhat low mileage and under 300
