Default safely rev to ?

I just recently bought a b18b with a dhr head, crower 404's, crower double springs and retainers, a factory b18b bottom end rebuilt with jdm itr pistons. The guy before revved this motor to nearly 9k. I am somewhat new to the all motor side of things. Im wondering what it takes to make a motor safely rev high. like, does it need to be balanced, do the stock sleves handle high revs. In the end I would like to be able to take it to 10k. only because the cams in this motor are ment for high rpms.

,thanks.

The factory rods are not good to 10k, particularly with stock rod bolts. Even with 404's I doubt that the motor is making power much past 8,000 rpm.

think so? I was thinking of just getting a chip and limiting it to about 8k to 8.5k. I do know the motor has arp rod bolts and headbolts. think a set of carillo rods would do? im pretty sure the valvletrain is good for 10k.

The best way to find out is to take it to a dyno and see where the power falls off.

ummmm..did you read the dyno explanation in the end. the power starts to go back up around 7.5k.

"The only thing I wonder is if we reved the motor to 8000 or 8500 would I have made more power?( look at the chart at around 7400-7500 as the curve starts to go back up)"

The power is not going back up-it's the end of the run and the dyno spikes like that at the end. Notice the torque falling pretty sharply after 6,500.

hmm. your right. well. im wondering what would be a better cam for serious top-end. It seems as though the 404's are a mid-range cam though advertised mostly high. maybe the 405s? also, could head flow have to do with the drop in power after about 7k?

Check out this motor:

404's and power hangs up there pretty well.
405's will make more up top but you will lose some bottom and mid range.
